Looking for a large screen Samsung smartphone? The Galaxy A8 Star is now available in Malaysia. Compared to the current Galaxy A8 (2018), it offers a larger display, more storage and a significantly bigger battery.

Both Samsung’s online store and certified authorised partner on Lazada have listed the Galaxy A8 Star at RM1,799. However, retailer DirectD is offering the same Samsung Malaysia unit for RM1,699. The Galaxy A8 Star comes in either Black or White.

To recap on the specs, the Galaxy A8 Star comes with a 6.3″ Full HD+ Super AMOLED display and under the hood, it runs on a powerful Snapdragon 660 processor with 4GB of RAM. Onboard, it has 64GB of storage which is expandable via microSD.

For taking pictures, the A8 Star comes with a dual-camera setup that’s placed vertically on the back. It has a 16MP f/1.7 main camera and a secondary 24MP f/1.7 shooter that can produce Live Focus effects.

For selfies, it has a high resolution 24MP front camera which comes with Pro lighting and Smart Beauty effects.

It has a 3,700mAh battery which isn’t as large as the Galaxy A9 Pro but it’s bigger than its current Galaxy A8+, S9+ and Galaxy Note8. Unlike the Galaxy A8 and A8+, the Galaxy A8 Star doesn’t come with IP68 dust and water resistance. However, it still charges via USB-C and it retains a 3.5mm headphone jack. Out of the box, it runs on Android 8.0 Oreo.

sometimes i feel like they purposely make phone price high so that telco phone offer looks like being discount. on other side this offer from offer doesnt seem so bad

Is the sd slot a dedicated or hybrid setup.

Important to highlight if it’s dedicated slot

Are you from India ? Only India prefer dual sim phone as there phone & data come from different sim

Another type of people prefer dual sim is those need to cross over to Singapore to work daily.

Are you a Malaysian? For people doing sales they usually carry two phone line. Samsung last time never bring dual sim phone for flagship and they start since Note 5 because got demand.

Many pop need dual sim..As one for calling..n another for data..

Nowadays phone call are basically FOC, all call plan come with data, nobody will buy a sim just for data alone.

Better to carry 2 phone since now china phone are so dirt cheap, if one want a secondary phone.

I've two sims, both for call and data. So I can have total coverage if one failed then the other can use as backup.

    @LKF — It’s a hybrid slot. At least that’s according to GSMArena.

You can modify the microsd card by affixing the nano sim on the microsd card and using simultaneously.

You can use dual sim active and microsd card simultaneously.

Is this support samsung pay?

@Dyan — I think so, according to GSMArena.

For that price can get ASUS max pro 2.5 bijik

your statment not really true, you are comparing 3gb phone price to 4gb phone. zenfone max without doubt is very high value for money, however it has many missing feature like worst camera quality, nfc, worser chip, build quality, etc. however at that price range perhaps honor view 10 is better?

Is samsung midrange any good compared to those from china company?
