Huawei’s new NM Card for the Mate 20 series will go on sale in Malaysia next week

When Huawei introduced its new Mate 20 series, it no longer supports microSD card expansion. Instead, they have introduced a new Nano Memory card solution that shares the same dimensions as a nano SIM card.

If need more storage for your Mate 20 or Mate 20 Pro, you can buy the NM cards in Malaysia starting next week at Huawei Experience stores as well as their official online store.

For the Malaysian market, we are only getting the 128GB NM card for now and it’s priced at RM298 per piece. In China, the NM Card is also available in 64GB and 256GB options.

As you would expect for a new card format, it’s more expensive than a microSD card. At the moment, a 128GB SanDisk Extreme microSD card is listed at RM210 on Lazada and you could get it as low as RM139.90 on 11.11.

According to Huawei, the NM card has a read speed of 90MB/s and write speed of 70MB/s which is sufficient for 4K video recording. The NM Card is currently supported on the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X. Take note that the NM card will occupy the second nano-SIM slot so you can’t use two SIM cards and an NM card at the same time.

mmc sd nm

so all nano reduce the size of dual-sim slot
still remember the old days, motorola phone with a sim card as big as the phone itself

woah, proprietary card (do correct me if wrong)? looks like huawei trying to tie in users to their ‘ecosystem’? Would be a problem to switch to other brands when u really utilize the expandable storage.

Definitely an Apple-like proprietary move to soak customers for more money. I bet the price will be 70% more than Micro SD cards and not faster.

Basically they introduced a new form for memory card, probably there will be more phones in the future that use this type of memory card like the usb type-C port case. Not just Huawei, other brands can also jump on this bandwagon (will they do it or not idk for sure). Well, change is always a messy procedure imo.

Just change very little bit size but you need to pay more for a slower speed memory card. (at least at this moment)
If they can reach similar speed as micro SD, maybe acceptable. But slower speed, it is not future prove at all. I don't see success for this type memory card.

Its not even UFS 3.0 external storage. Waiting for this.

Blardy hell Huawei.. just offer 256gb mate 20 model and charge 300 more laaaaaa

Oh shall we boycott Huawei early before it becomes like the fruit company going with propietory stuffs and trapping all into its walled garden?

Wrong move Huawei. Haven't you learned from the slow and painful demise of PS Vita?
