Redmi Note 5 Malaysia Official Release Date

This is it! The Xiaomi smartphone you’ve been waiting for is coming to Malaysia very soon. The Redmi Note 5 was spotted on the SIRIM database and now the official online store has teased that it will be hitting Malaysia next week.

We know Xiaomi is launching the Redmi Note 5 this week in Indonesia and it won’t take too long for them to release this affordable mid-range smartphone on our shores. If you take a peek at the official Mi Store on Lazada Malaysia, they have indicated that it will be available on 24 April.

The Redmi Note 5 is the true successor to the popular Redmi Note 4 which many would agree is the best value for money smartphone you can get for less than RM1,000. It was launched as the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India but in other parts of the world, it will be known as the Redmi Note 5.

To recap on the specs, the Redmi Note 5 comes with a 5.99″ Full HD+ display in a taller 18:9 display aspect ratio. Under its full metal body is a more powerful Snapdragon 636 processor that’s mated with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Like its predecessor, it gets a rather generous 4,000mAh battery which charges via microUSB.

Assuming that it follows the same specs as China’s version, it will get a 12MP f/1.9 + 5MP main camera and a front facing 13MP f/2.2 selfie camera. Out of the box, it runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with the latest MIUI skin on top.

In China, the base 3GB RAM + 32GB storage Redmi Note 5 is priced at 1,099 CNY (about RM680) while the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage option is going for 1,399 CNY (about RM866). The top of the line 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant is going for 1,699 CNY (about RM1,051). We will get a better price indication after the Indonesian launch.

Thanks ManJun for the tip!

24 Comments for Lazada reveals when the Redmi Note 5 is going on sale in Malaysia

This is a much better option compared to the Oppo F7 or the Vivo v9. I’ve had the Chinese Note 5 AI and even the Vivo V9. The Note 5 AI shoots much better images. Build quality feels much better too compared to the plastic counterparts.

Oppo and vivo are just gimmick phones with lots of marketing and sponsorship to confused Malaysian.
    .
Huawei and Xiaomi are different, their phone is the real deal

      Avles

Talk about Battery Life and Overall Performance Xiaomi with its Snapdragon 636 processor performs better than Snapdragon 626 processor that we get on Vivo.
Vivo is too costly for this 626 SoC

    EIS stabilization camera:

    Redmi Note 5 = Yes

    Vivo V9 = No

    Oppo F7 = No

    Nova 2i = No

    Conclusion:

    Redmi Note 5 > All

Redmi note 5 is the king of phones under rm1k..but the marketing in malaysia is not so aggresive. Most normal people who are not tech geek will fall for vivo and oppo overprice low spec phones. They have aggressive marketing and also like to sponsor many shows.

        Sialkom

If they follow other marketing company then maybe the price will go up. Xiaomi should avoid unnecessary marketing(haha personally I don’t want any hype) and find a creative ways to tell a casual consumer what they offer. (But Mi Indonesia use artist already for promotion and the upcoming launched)

I've read about EIS on some review about Redmi Note 5 but the EIS have not been mentioned in specification.

The front is beautiful with those rounded edges, but the back…meh

unless you use it naked. else it it doesn't really matter after you slap a casing on, just like how fugly the rear of google nexus 6p is, but after slap in casing it look's ok.

when the price only allow xiaomi to pick either one of the feature from iphone x, they chose the vertical camera. LEL

    Butahuruf

Too bad yr parent don’t have a choice with u.

      bododroid

i assure you that your parent would choose me over a butahuruf if they have a choice, but sadly they dont. LEL

        lol

Of course his parent will choose you… to be their dog

Vivo and oppo do not consider Malaysia a priority market (meaning wealthy enough) thats why they are not releasing their flagships X series and R series overhere anymore.

Thanks for the update! I’ve already ordered body film protectors and a couple of cases for the phone. Been following up since the India launch. Although the China rom version already selling in Lazada I still prefer the global version. Can’t wait to order them by 24th.

i bought Redmi Note 5A Prime few month ago.. so many version, confusing 😐

    sce

me stopped following on all the xiaomi models..damn confusing

soyacincau should make a live table of phones available in malaysia for different price ranges….

      Sialkom

My family and friends also confused. But after discussing I can confirm they actually confuse because of the device name. Here an example Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. They group this 2 phone in a same ‘collum’. NO they don’t belong in the same bracket of spec and price please aware of this. A lot of people also buy Redmi Notes 5A because thinking it kind on the same ‘collum’ with Redmi Note 5. Mi Max 2, Mi A1 and Redmi 5 Plus this 3 phone can be said on the same collum because it offer the same range price and spec. This 3 has pro and cons to each other. But the coming of Redmi Note 5 gonna step above that 3 xiomi device right now.(right now that 3 device I mention getting drop on price with online shop to make a way for RN5)

What is estimated price? I still have a working phone. I could be interested in getting this since I given up waiting for Lenovo P3. Or should I wait for mix max 3 to be released? I am asking cause of the mega huge batteries mix max lineup is known for.

    Sialkom

Logically it should be price in the middle of (Redmi 5 Plus currently sit) 700+ ——1150+ (Mi Note 3).Wait for Indonesia release cause the difference between Malaysia is not too big

rm8.1lunch

Previous redmi note 4 battery life super good but camera can barely take normal picture only. If this redmi note 5 got camera quality improves then not need to buy those over thousand vivo or oppo ady. Ya these china phones shamelessly copied apple punya design and os kaw kaw but price 500% cheaper and more convenience to use leh. Nowadays everyone got at least 1 phone, nobody care u pakai apa brand one, better buy a value phone and save money to buy something else.

wikiki

the sales is on just lazada or over all phone store in malaysia?

HawauMi

Not just only Xiaomi confusing..

Huawei also nowadays came out with same spec but different names..Too many Honor models.. too many Lite Version with same like Honor's specs… and then mid range with Kirin 65x models..

Honor 8 pro = Honor 9 = Nova 2i = Honor 7X
only slight modification. .

Redmi plus here plus there.. then Mi here Mi there.. bleargh…

madafaker

dang totally agree with current phone maker name their products xx pro, xx i, xx ai, xx lite, xx 2i, xx x
damn confusing.
