Redmi 5 Plus

Looking for a Redmi Note 4 successor? This could be it. After it was speculated that Xiaomi might drop its Redmi “Note” moniker, it appears that the Redmi Note 5 device could be announced tomorrow on Valentine’s Day. The big reveal is happening in India and it has been a year since the current Redmi Note 4 for international markets was launched.

From what we are seeing so far, it’s more than just an international variant of the current Redmi 5/Redmi 5 Plus models. The standard Redmi Note 5 is said to come with a 5.7″ FullHD+ display and it runs on a Snapdragon 625 processor that comes with either 3GB RAM + 32GB storage or 4GB RAM + 64GB of storage. It will get a single 12MP main camera at the rear, while the front comes with a 5MP selfie shooter. Like the current model, it will get a 4,000mAh battery and it runs on MIUI 9.5 that’s still based on Android Nougat.

What’s interesting is its higher spec Redmi Note 5 Pro which will come with dual-cameras. It’s rumoured to feature a larger 5.9″ FullHD+ display and will run on a newer 14nm Snapdragon 636 processor with Kryo 260 cores. For the first time on a Redmi series, it’s also suggested that it will get 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There’s also a lower spec variant that comes with 4GB RAM + 64GB of storage.

For imaging, the rear camera is said to come with a 12MP + 5MP camera combo while the front gets a high resolution 20MP selfie camera. The battery might be the same as the standard Redmi Note 5 with a 4,000mAh capacity.

From the teaser video above, it looks like Xiaomi is also launching its smart TV for the Indian market. You can see a reflection of a large screen and the ending visual shows a large panel with thin bezels. If this is true, this is the first official release of its Mi TV outside of China and we are guessing it could be running on Android TV.

However, looking at the replies by Xiaomi India’s social team, it is clear that they will be launching a device with the number 5. Even its Managing Director has teased an ultimate all-rounder 5UPERHERO device will be unveiled on 14 February 2018. Looking at the specs above, we expect this new model to be priced higher than the current Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 5/5Plus models. Everything will be revealed tomorrow at noon in India which is about 2.30PM Malaysian time.

Leaked specs and render

Before the Redmi Note 5/5 Pro is revealed tomorrow, it’s purported leaflet has leaked online. From the looks of it, the Redmi Note 5 Pro appears to come with a vertical dual camera bump that’s similar to the iPhone X. It looks quite legit but we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out how it really looks like.

Thanks rshh for the tip!

Once upon a time, every xiaomi launch would generate a lot of hype but that has slow down a lot.

Would be better if the chip was not SD625 as it would mean its almost the same unit as the Redmi Note 4.

Lets wait for the malaysia price as there are plenty of alternatives from Motorola, Nokia or Honor

    Cyrus

dulu got hype becoz they sell dirt cheap compare to other competitor in malaysia. now? although still consider no.1 no.2 cheap in malaysia, but definitely no longer "dirt cheap" edi. remember old time mi3? the spec/price? the 10400 pb? i still remember official price RM36 for the pb. wait event can get it much cheaper some more. got flash sale, flash sale is dirt cheap on top of dirt cheap. now all gone. how to get ppl hype.

I am more intested in the Redmi 5 Plus. When will it be on sale in Malaysia?

    soyacincau

    It’s already on sale at RM749. http://www.soyacincau.com/2018/02/07/xiaomi-redmi-5-redmi-5-plus-officially-on-sale-malaysia/

is it true about the rumours that Xiaomi phone have problem with GPS.. lots of grabcar customer cannot get correct location while using the gps and driver have non accurate GPS using maps in the phone for navigation.

    LKF

I used redmi note 2 and my partner uses the note 4 quite often

No such problems when we use waze so far.

But during festive periods, might be difficult to login to waze and occasionally get the search network but Internet is working fine

More likely congestion at waze servers due to heavy volume of users at the same time

    Cheong

Yes. And I’m already very frustrated due to this. Went for the Service Centre in Malaysia and the technical guy told me he can’t do anything it’s because of the software problem therefore he ask me to wait for new upgrade. And the new upgrade is here and nothing fix!!

    Grabdriver

Gps signal always lost, but I cant complaint much compare to my current ip5s.. bcoz waze was so laggy on ip5s. Maybe newer model like note 4 perform better.

    Aladdin

I have been using note 4x and it is superb. I use both maps and waze gps and so far so good. Right on the dot. No lagging at all.
Go get note 4x and you will appreciate.
It is cheap now at lazada. I use china ori version.

Please not Redmi Note 5 ! Please No !

Adrian

I am very happy with my Redmi Note 4 but am getting really confused with Xiaomi's naming convention. We have Redmi 5, 5A, 5 Plus, Note 5A, Note 5A Prime, and now the 5 Note? Do they really need that many models?

    Kishern

Im 100% in the same page as you bruh.

joe mamak

you must be on a high level of patheticness to get excited about a xiaomi phone.

it’s apple or the gutter guys.

work harder.

dont be a failure.

    Typical

Not everyone needs an Apple products. You work harder just to be an iSheep? What a pathetic human being. So a person need to own an expensive products to measure how successful they are?

      nitro

I’m with you typical.. even apple parts is manufactured here in malaysia…so what’s the big deal of having a good quality from from China….by the way I’m a Huawei fan…I’m using mate8 until now superb..

    Realist

You simply swallowed Apple’s propaganda hook online and sinker. If its made in the US perhaps…… Now where again is it made?

Just a matter of time iPhone would copy dual sim configuration.

    Swam

1‰ Droidfuk always syoik sendiri, not afford high end products diedie must bash whatever others own, jealousy mindset, typical katak at the bottom low IQ , failure life unlike iPhone users all successful in life

      ???

You again? seriously what the hell is wrong with you? Kitaorang Pakai money you ke nak buy phone. Grow up la. Not everyone can buy 3000+ phone and not everyone like iPhone.

      ???

Last time aku check we Android user are the majority and korang blind isheep are the minority.

      iPhoneNotiTxt

I would assume that most of these "successful in life" iPhone users should at least use one that are able to make calls, not the iPhone X. They solved that issue yet? Oh haven't read avout that? Probably need to get out of that Mom and Dad paid for condo slash comfy cave son.

    ???

No kau yang pathetic buying a phone that cost a quarter of its price is beyond any sane human understanding.

      AndroidUser

Surely but slowly you will hate your iphone one day. On that day you will love android phone based on their specification, performance, function and other interesting features. Value for money too. Mark my word. Hahahaha…

        ???

Dude I’m the same person I’m replying to Joe mamak
