Caterpillar S60 rugged FLIR phone Malaysia

Looking for a phone that is seriously tough? The Caterpillar S60 is a rugged smartphone that’s designed to survive hard drops, water submersion and it even has “Predator” vision. It first announced during MWC 2016 and you can finally order one here in Malaysia.

Designed like a power tool, the CAT S60 is built tough from the ground up. Utilising a strengthened die cast frame, it can withstand drops up to 1.8 metres which is beyond military specification. The S60 is also the world’s most waterproof smartphone. By default, it can withstand being submerged in water up to 2 metres deep. However, you can increase its waterproofing further up to 5 metres by sealing up its speaker and microphone grill by flipping its lock down switch.

The biggest highlight, of course, is its FLIR camera. This gives you live thermal imaging directly on your smartphone and it can even give you temperature readings of each spot even after the picture is taken. The FLIR camera has a rated range up to 30 metres, making it suitable for security guards to see individuals even through thick smoke. In real life application, the S60 is useful for checking for leaks and heat insulation.

In terms of specs, the CAT S60 is a mid-range phone from 2016. It gets a 4.7″ HD 720p that’s protected by Gorilla Glass 4 and it runs on a Snapdragon 617 processor. There’s 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage which is still expandable via microSD.

For normal shots, it gets a 13MP main camera while the front gets a 5MP unit. For longer usage on the field, the S60 gets a 3,800mAh battery which should be more than enough for a full day of use.

Retailer DirectD is offering the CAT S60 at RM2,899. Take note that these are import sets and they are accepting pre-orders now with 10-14 day waiting period. If you’re interested, you can head over to DirectD.
