Huawei Nova 2 Plus Malaysia

OPPO and vivo have dominated the selfie smartphone segment with its high-resolution 16MP and 20MP front shooters. Not wanting to be left behind, Huawei had recently introduced its new Nova 2 series that comes with a 20MP front camera.

This Huawei’s first attempt at making a serious selfie-centric device and it’s coming to Malaysia very soon.

Huawei Malaysia says they are introducing a new smartphone that aims to put the best selfie tool into your pocket. Apart from taking 20MP selfies, it also packs a dual-camera set up at the rear that claims to produce outstanding photos in low light.

For ease of shooting, the new Nova smartphones have a “raise hand motion” and a 2-second countdown timer built-in. For selfie touchups, it has 3D facial recognition plus Beauty 4.0 software enhancement that comes with automatic gender recognition. You can also add bokeh effects to your selfies with live preview.

To recap on the specs, the Nova 2 comes in a compact 5.0″ model along with a larger 5.5″ Nova 2 Plus model. Both push full HD resolution and are powered by a Kirin 659 processor with 4GB of RAM. In China, the Nova 2 comes with 64GB of storage while the plus model gets a larger 128GB capacity.

Like its P10 flagships, it also features a full metal unibody exterior but with an iPhone 7 inspired curved antenna band design which is a common trend among most selfie-centric phones from China. Over at the rear, it gets a 12MP primary camera for normal shots and a secondary 8MP lens for telephoto. Unlike the latest Huawei P10 series, the Nova 2 still features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The Nova 2 is juiced up by a 2,950mAh battery while the Nova 2 Plus gets a larger 3,340mAh unit. Out of the box, both runs on EMUI 5.1 that’s based on Android 7.0. In China, the Nova 2 is priced closely to its OPPO and vivo rivals which are slightly below the RM2,000 mark. Huawei Malaysia hasn’t revealed any launch dates for the Nova 2 but we reckon it should happen sometime end of this month or early August.

Huawei came quite late to the party.

Nubia,sub-company of ZTE have launched their Nubia M2-series into the game of selfie centric market.

Most popular Oppo R9s-series, newly released in China X9-series, and along with Vivo V5(s)-series going strong monopolizing this market segment as Samsung and Apple not too interested in this selfie lover business.

Will Huawei able to compete as a worthy contender with this Huawei Nova 2 Plus?

    Tino

Easy. Just spend more money in marketing and hire lots of celebrity. Oppo and vivo are successful because of marketing not innovation. Huawei can afford to do it.

Yes.Can’t agree more. Oppo and Vivo are very aggressive in marketing campaign than Samsung and Apple combine.

Who’s next to be a celebrity from SBS (Korea) holding this Huawei new phone?

Joelle

In china oppo and vivo selling volumes are increasing tremendously everyday just because their model be able to take beautify selfies even without flagships processors. Not sure the nova2 5inch can sell at malaysia later it will become nova2 lite 5.2inch again. The price not cheap at all, it's same with the mi6 in china.

walauweh

finally, huawei managed to get the product positioning rite.

i keep asking myself, what is nova series for, previously its only midrange phone with better rear camera hardware but with hefty price, but not really that good cuz the lite of p series n honor, already make nova seems not the bargain at all.

so,people may steer to p series cuz its a camera centric series. while mate is more on phablet size with business people in mind.

finally, they get it right. selfie centric. hopefully the price is cheaper than its competitor.
