Samsung anticipates high demand for the larger Galaxy S8+

The latest Galaxy S8 and S8+ have one of the biggest screens to be ever fitted on a flagship smartphone. At 5.8″ and 6.2″, that’s even bigger than their Galaxy Note smartphone series that usually comes with a phablet-sized 5.7″ screen.

As Samsung prepares to roll out its latest Galaxy S8 and S8+ worldwide, it appears that the larger S8+ could be more popular than they originally thought.

According to a report, Samsung is currently bumping up production for its larger Galaxy S8+. It was said that Samsung had planned for a 60:40 production ratio for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.

As the Galaxy S series is known for being a compact flagship compared to its Note series, it is natural to expect the majority of consumers to lean towards the smaller non-Plus model. After all, the Galaxy S8 despite having a larger 5.8″ screen is actually smaller in the hands compared to the 5.5″ Galaxy S7 edge.

Looking at the post-announcement response, it appears that there will be a stronger demand for the bigger model and Samsung is bumping up its production ratio by 5%. This is probably a sign that more buyers are receptive towards a larger screen in a smaller form factor and the Galaxy S8+ could be more favourable due to its larger 3,500mAh battery. In the hands, the Galaxy S8+ at 73.4mm width is narrower than the Galaxy Note7 (73.9mm), Huawei P10 Plus (74.2mm) and iPhone 7 Plus (77.9mm).

Apart from the screen size (5.8″ vs 6.2″) and the battery capacity (3,000mAh vs 3,500mAh), another deciding factor would be the price. Over at Singapore, the Galaxy S8 is priced at S$1,148 (about RM3,632), while the Galaxy S8+ is going for S$1,298 (RM4,106). Assuming it’s RM500 difference between the two models, which S8 would you get? Let us know in the comments below.

UPDATE: The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are officially priced at RM3,299 and RM3,699 in Malaysia.
