The Chinese smart phone makers are making headlines this year and we’ve seen OPPO, Xiaomi and mostly recently Meizu making their way to Malaysia. The OPPO N1 can be regarded as one of the early pioneers for selfie-centric smart phone thanks to its rotatable 13MP main camera. Most recently they have replaced it with a better and motorised version on the N3.

If you think that’s cool, wait until you check out the Doov Nike V1, another Chinese smart phone that seems to mimic OPPO’s camera approach.

Instead of having a rotating motion, the camera flips outwards with a claimed 190 degrees angle. The camera is a lower 13MP f/2.0 shooter from Sony but it gets enhanced with Optical Image Stabiliser and dual-tone flash from Philips. When taking selfies, it also offers single handed operation where you can trigger the camera shutter by tapping on the back.

Spec-wise, the Nike V1 (we doubt the use of the popular brand is authorised) is a mid-spec affair. The front gets a 5″ display that does a modest HD 720p resolution and powering the device is MediaTek’s 1.5GHz Quad-Core MediaTek MT6732 processor with 2GB of RAM. On-board there’s either 16GB or 32GB of storage and from the looks of it, there’s no expansion slot.

It supports 4G LTE but only in TDD-LTE mode and keeping the lights on is a 2,480mAh battery that’s non removable. The Nike V1 currently runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with its own skin on top. Overall it is 8.3mm thick and weighs 145 grams. Doov is quite an obscure brand so we probably won’t see this in Malaysia anytime soon.
