We are all familiar with the saying cheap things are not good, good things are not cheap. While this is applicable to most entry level smart phones, Motorola has managed to deliver a rather affordable yet capable smart phone for the masses with its Moto G. Priced from RM698, you probably expect an average smart phone with a low resolution display that’s running on a basic entry-level processor. When launched a few months ago, it was regarded as a value buy with specifications that could put more expensive smart phones to shame.
At the front you get a brilliant 4.5″ IPS display that pushes a rather high 720p HD resolution and comes protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The Moto G isn’t a slouch either as it runs on a capable yet frugal Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 4 cores running at 1.2GHz. You’ll also get a decent 1GB of RAM, 5MP main and 1.3MP front cameras along with support for dual-SIMs. On-board there’s a non-removable 2,070mAh battery which pushes a decent all day usage with moderate use. The Moto G is currently running on the latest Android 4.4 and it is rather smooth thanks to its plain vanilla UI.
There are 2 versions available – 8GB model at RM698 and a 16GB model at RM798. Since it lacks a microSD expansion slot, we would recommend going for the 16GB version which is worth the extra RM100. To find out what we think of the Moto G, check out our hands-on video after the break.
