For those who felt that the recently announced HTC One Max was underwhelming in terms of hardware specs, here’s something to look forward to. The mystery device shown above is the purported HTC M8, which is said to be the successor of the current HTC One which was code-named M7.

Design wise, it retains the same aluminium construction but the side revealed curved edges that looks similar with the previous HTC One S. At the back, there’s an unknown cutout right above the camera which some speculated to be a secondary camera for 3D recording. However it is also highly possible to be a fingerprint scanner as well.

In terms of hardware, the new M8 is said to be running on an updated quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 3GB of RAM, which would close the gap with the Galaxy Note 3. Over at the front, the M8 is said to feature a larger 5.0-5.2″ screen with 2K resolution.

At this point, all these details are still speculative and it would be interesting to see what would HTC bring to the table next year. The HTC One was revealed in February 2013 and remains one of our top pick Android smart phones for design, performance and battery life.
