Xiaomi Mi Mix 2
Mobile World Congress is kicking off this week and you can expect smartphone launches happening back to back. Xiaomi wants to make headlines as well and they will be introducing a new smartphone in the next few days. They have just posted a teaser for their upcoming device with a random 6-digit number. What could this be?
The Mi MIX 2 is an interesting flagship from Xiaomi as it comes with a “bezel-less” display and a nice ceramic back. If you prefer something more exclusive with better specs, Xiaomi Malaysia has just announced the arrival of its Mi MIX 2 Special Edition. Not only it has more RAM and double the storage, the Special Edition comes in white.
2017 was a fascinating year for smartphones and mobile tech in general. There were a lot of ups, a lot of downs and some pretty weird stuff along the way but there’s no denying that it was an eventful year.
Now that we’re on the cusp of the next wave of new products for 2018, we thought it’d be cool to take a look at some of the highs and some of the lows in 2017.
During the official opening ceremony of its Mi authorised store at Suria KLCC, Xiaomi has announced the official availability of the Mi MIX 2 and the Redmi Note 5A Prime in Malaysia. The Mi MIX 2 is their flagship smartphone that comes with a 5.99″ 18:9 bezel-less display and a premium ceramic back while the Redmi Note 5A Prime is their affordable 5.5″ phablet alternative.
There’s no denying that Xiaomi‘s original attempt at the “bezel-less” smartphone, 2016’s Mi MIX, was an impractical device. It was big, thanks to the large screen and not so slim 17:9 aspect ratio, heavy, and a little too slippery because its innards were encased in a polished ceramic shell.
But I loved the crap out of that smartphone. It was fascinating, edgy and a big middle finger to the already established cookie cutter smartphone look. Needless to say, I was really excited for the new Mi MIX 2 because I was hoping Xiaomi would make it more bonkers than ever.
But they went ahead and did exactly the opposite.
Xiaomi surprised the world a year ago when it first unveiled its bezel-less concept smartphone, the Mi MIX. For 2017, more smartphone makers are following this trend as seen on the current Galaxy S8, Essential Phone, LG V30 and the vivo V7+.
To step up its game, Xiaomi has unveiled its latest successor that comes with its Full Screen 2.0 display.
