Maxis being the first to offer 4G LTE service in Malaysia has finally announced its 4G LTE smart phone bundling. Initially Maxis 4G LTE was only launched with its Wireless Broadband service offering. There are 2 devices being offered – Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC One XL which both supports 2600MHz frequency.
The 4.5″ Nokia Lumia 920 is offered as low as RM1,099 while the 4.7″ HTC One XL will be offered from as low as RM1,199. Both devices will be tied with either Maxis SurfMore 75 or TalkMore 78 with 3GB bolt on data plan. The HTC One XL looks identical with its One X sibling but instead it runs on dual-core Qualcomm Krait processor as opposed to the One X’s Quad Core Tegra 3 processor. The devices will be available at Maxis centres at KLCC and TTDI.
In terms of speeds, Maxis 4G LTE offers up to 75Mbps with average speeds hovering around 10-30Mbps. Currently its 4G LTE coverage is limited to Klang Valley including areas such as TTDI, Damansara Utama, Desa Sri Hartamas, Bandar Puchong Jaya, Bandar Sunway and Putrajaya with more areas to be covered soon.

Maxis has revised its smart phone bundling on its lower commitment plans such as SurfMore & TalkMore. With the latest revision, the 5.5″ Galaxy Note II can be yours for RM1,199 with 24 months contract of SurfMore 75 (5GB) which is a RM200 reduction from its initial offering during launch.
If you prefer something smaller, the 4.8″ Galaxy S III is offered as low as RM799 while the HTC One S can be yours from just RM399. For the ultra-light users, they are also offering the Nokia Asha 311 for free as well.

As usual, there’s an advance payment of RM1,000 required for phones with a RRP above RM500 which is basically all of the above except for the Nokia Asha. For the Nokia Asha 311, an advance payment of RM500 is required. The advance payment will be used to offset your upcoming bills. It isn’t mentioned here but loyal Maxis customers on Maxis One Club would normally be waived from payment advance payment.

If you’re looking for an iPhone for cheap and don’t really need to get the latest, Maxis is still offering the iPhone 4 8GB version from as low as RM499 with 24 months contract of TalkMore 48 + 3GB of data. Meanwhile, for those that want to commit less, it is going for RM699 with 24 months contract of TalkMore/TextMore 28 with 1GB of data. The iPhone 4 8GB version is priced at RM1,449 outright.
In terms of bundling, TalkMore 48 offers 400 minutes of voice calls and 200 SMS while TalkMore 28 offers 200 minutes and 100 SMS. The mobile data are actually bolt-on monthly data plans of RM48 for 1GB and RM68 for 3GB. During sign up, Maxis requires RM1,000 upfront payment which is rebated across 5 months. However for Maxis One Club customers, the upfront payment is waived as usual.
For those looking for something newer, the iPhone 4S 16GB is offered at RM1,049 on SurfMore 75 with 5GB data.

For TalkMore 78, you’ll get 600 minutes of voice calls and 500 SMS to connect to all networks in Malaysia. Excess usage are charged at 8sen per minute/SMS within Maxis and 15 sen per minute/SMS to other networks. If your usage exceed RM150, you’ll get a lower 3 sen per minute/SMS to Maxis numbers.

Maxis has introduced 2 new plans for those looking for low monthly commitment – TalkMore 28 and TextMore 28. Just as the suggests, for RM28/month, you can have a choice of either 200 minutes of talk and 100 SMS per month with TalkMore 28, or have 100 minutes of talk and 200 SMS a month with TextMore 28. This gives a value of RM40 of usage for just RM28/month. Earlier on, Maxis has introduced its TalkMore 48 that offers 400 minutes of talk time and 200 SMS per month.
Excess calls and SMS usage for both TalkMore 28 and TextMore 28 are charged at 12 sen per min/SMS for made to Maxis and 15sen for to other networks. If your usage hits RM75 in that month, you get a lowered 6sen/min or per SMS within the Maxis network. Visit their TalkMore page for more details on the plan.

Maxis introduces TalkMore 48 which is a new postpaid plan that comes pre-bundled with talktime minutes and SMS for just RM48/month. It comes with 400 minutes of calls and 200 SMS which can be used to all networks in Malaysia that’s valued at RM75.
Additional call usage is charged at 10 sen/min to Maxis numbers and 15 sen/min to others. Additional SMS are charged at 10 sen to Maxis and 15 sen to others. Once your usage hits RM110/month, calls and SMS within Maxis are charged at 5 sen/min and 5 sen per SMS.
Overall the call rates are cheaper than the standard Maxis Value Plus 50 offering. Maxis VP50 charges 12 sen/min to calls within Maxis and 18 sen/min to others. With that rate, it gives you about 416 minutes of calls within Maxis or 277 minutes to other networks, whereas for RM2/month less (RM48) on TalkMore 48, you’ll get 400 minutes and 200 SMS which is better value.
