Huawei Malaysia is announcing the MediaPad M5 for our local market today. This is their latest compact multimedia tablet which succeeds the MediaPad M3 which was introduced almost two years ago. It offers a high resolution Quad HD display, dual stereo speakers and it can also support voice calls.
Huawei‘s rumoured hybrid laptop is finally here and the Matebook is set to shake the market as the brand’s first ever fully-fledged computing device that runs like a Surface, but is lighter than your iPad Pro.
Hybrid tablet devices aren’t something particularly new but the fact that Huawei went ahead to produce the Matebook is what ultimately makes it special; because it represents a shift for the company away from just smartphones into the realm of ultra-mobile devices.

Mobile World Congress is happening soon and Huawei is expected to have an announcement event on the 1st of March. If you’re hoping for a new flagship, the Ascend P8 will not be making an appearance in Barcelona. Instead, it is expected to be announced at a separate event in London held on the 15th of April.
Their current TalkBand B1 is basically a water resistant bluetooth headrest that could dock onto your wrist. In terms of function and build quality, we are not that impressed and hopefully they could do better in the next iteration.
For the upcoming Ascend P8, Huawei is unlikely to regain its slimmest title like how it did in the past. Newer players like OPPO and Vivo have been setting new records at 4.85mm and 4.75mm respectively. However Huawei will still be focusing on premium industrial design and its slimness shouldn’t compromise vital functions such as battery life.
Huawei has just released a teaser video of its upcoming event at MWC 2014. In their event this morning, Huawei Malaysia has shared that they will be launching smart phones, tablets and even wearable device in the upcoming event.
The teaser starts by teasing a slim tablet that comes with a huge battery capacity that claims to last for days of usage. Next a smart phone is briefly shown and claims to have an amazing front facing camera. The teaser continues with a second tablet which promises ultimate multimedia experience while the video focuses briefly at the speaker grill. Finally the video ends with a product that looks like a MiFi device which supports the next generation LTE network. This could be referring to LTE-Advanced connectivity that’s being deployed at some markets.
The Huawei event is happening on Sunday, 23rd of February which is the day before it officially starts on Monday. Watch the teaser video after the break.
