Clubhouse invites are up for sale for as high as RM299 in Malaysia

Clubhouse is probably the latest social media craze right now and it’s an audio-only chat app that aims to create a social platform that “felt more human”. Not only it is available exclusively on iOS, you can’t join Clubhouse unless you’ve received an invite from an existing user.

So what if you want to get a piece of the action but you don’t have any friends to invite you? It looks some individuals are now trying to make a quick buck by putting these money can’t buy exclusive invites up for sale.

On Shopee, you can already find listings of Clubhouse invites going from RM55 to a whopping RM299. One seller has managed to sell two invites at RM61.60 each and has received 5 star reviews.

Do note that most of these sellers are individuals and they promise to send you the invite after you’ve completed the purchase. I don’t know about you, but paying for something that’s free is a bit ridiculous. The invite-only system is very similar to the early days of Gmail where each user is given limited number of invites. Eventually, Google had opened up the registration process to everyone without requiring an invite.

You don’t have an Clubhouse invite, you can now reserve your username through a waitlist. If one of your friends has signed up, they can also let you in if you’re included in their contact list.

If you’re interested, you can download Clubhouse today on the Apple App Store.
