The world of Lego and motorsports have come together with a remarkable recreation of a historic race car that famously delivered many wins for the Italian automaker, Ferrari. The Lego Technic Ferrari 488 GTE “AF CORSE #51” is a highly detailed model by the Danish toy maker that pays homage to one of Ferrari’s best cars.
This is model is particularly notable as it is the first Lego Technic model to be designed with Ferrari and it continues the more than 15 year-long partnership between the two brands. However, it is not the first time the car has been recreated in Lego form. In fact, according to Brick Owl there is another set called the Ferrari 488 GT3 Scuderia Corsa Set that features the race car with a mini fig.
Serious race fans will appreciate the attention to detail shown in this recreation of the racetrack icon. Though it is much smaller than the real deal, it nevertheless encapsulates the same unmistakeable Italian spirit as its real-life counterpart. Upon taking a closer look, you will find that the racing car model is packed with authentic features and beautiful design elements that make it a true expression of the Italian made endurance racer.
Lego Technic designer Lars Krogh Jensen said, “Ferrari is renowned for their truly incredible vehicles, so I knew I had to push the boundaries of the LEGO Technic system to do justice to the dominating racetrack idol.”
He said the model captures the sophisticated silhouettes of the iconic car and challenged Lego to use its engineering powers to capture the true essence of the 488 GTE. On the exterior of the model, you will find the original race number, sponsor stickers and an authentic Tricolore paint job that adds to the authentic look and feel of the model.
The fierce looking model features front and rear suspension, aerodynamic curves, an impressive recreation of a V8 engine with moving pistons. Then there is, of course, a steering wheel emblazoned with the Prancing Horse badge.
Ferrari Competizioni GT Official driver Alessandro Pier Guidi commented:
When I saw this reproduction of the Ferrari 488 GTE I was really impressed, especially considering some of the features they managed to replicate. I have to say that to see a LEGO Technic model of a car that I raced and carried my name on has made me very proud.
The 48cm long model is crafted from 1,677 Lego Technic elements, making it a rewarding and absorbing build for older builders aged 18 and above whom have a deep love for Ferrari cars and the world of motorsports.
The build should prove to be a great challenge for any fan who appreciates excellent design and is interested in learning more about the engineering and technology that goes into crafting such an impressive car.
The Lego Technic Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51” will be available from 4 January 2021 at RM799. According to Lego, the model will be available across all Lego Certified Stores, online via the Lego Official Store on Lazada and Shopee, Legoland as well as major retailers and department stores in Malaysia.
