If you’re looking for a rugged fitness watch that costs less than RM1,000, here’s an option to consider. The Garmin Instinct and Instinct Tactical are now offered with a RM400 and RM551 discount respectively from now until 31st December 2020.
The Garmin Instinct originally retails for RM1,299 while the Instinct Tactical is officially priced at RM1,450 in Malaysia. For a limited time, you can get both models for only RM899. Do note that the special price is only applicable for selected colours only.
The Garmin Instinct features a rugged exterior which is designed to meet US military standard 810G for thermal, shock and (10 ATM) water resistance up to 100 metres. It features a two-window monochrome display that pushes a resolution of 128×128 pixels.
The case and bezel use a fibre-reinforced polymer material while the lens uses a chemically strengthened glass. The Instinct features 3-axis compass and barometric altimeter with support for multiple satellite navigation systems including GPS, GLONASS and Galileo for better tracking in challenging environments.
There’s also heart rate monitoring and it can also track your fitness activity and stress levels. It supports multiple sports modes including running, cycling, swimming, climbing, weightlifting and yoga.
When paired with a compatible Android and iOS device via Bluetooth, you can also receive notifications from your phone. Users can also view their fitness and health stats with the Garmin Connect App. On a single charge, you can get up to 14 days of usage in smartwatch mode or up to 14 hours in GPS mode.
Garmin Instinct Tactical
The Garmin Instinct Tactical is similar to the standard version but you do get more interesting digital camouflage exterior options. It retains the same core fitness tracking and MIL-STD-810G rugged features including thermal, shock and water resistance of up to 100 metres.
What’s different is that the Tactical variant gets additional features which are useful for military operations. It has Night Vision mode which reduces the backlight of the display to a level which makes it visible when you have your night vision googles on. To avoid being detected, the watch also gets Stealth Mode which cuts off GPS positioning and wireless connectivity and communications.
The Instinct Tactical also has a Jumpmaster Activity feature designed for military skydivers. It provides detailed information for speed of descent and altitude.
