Digi offers iPhone 12 series from RM98/month but don’t bother if you’re new to Digi

Pre-orders for the iPhone 12 are finally open in Malaysia and Digi is offering all 4 models on its PhoneFreedom 365 instalment program. If you’re an existing Digi customer that’s eligible, you can secure your new iPhone with RM0 upfront payment and the program also provides free protection plus the option to swap phones after 18 months without additional penalty charges.

As usual, the PhoneFreedom 365 instalment program is tied to a 24-month contract with Digi’s Postpaid plans. For the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12, you get a total of 4 plan options including Postpaid 80 with GBoost (RM90/month), Postpaid 120, 160 and 190. However, for the iPhone 12 Pro series it is only offered with Postpaid 120 and above.

During the pre-order campaign, Digi is offering additional discounts for your monthly phone bill if you sign up with an eligible plan. On Digi Postpaid 120, they offer RM360 off (RM15 x 24 months), while on Postpaid 160, you’ll get savings of RM480 (RM20 x 24 months). On the highest Postpaid 190 option, Digi offers RM600 off (RM25 x 24 months).

Insane advance payment for new users

As highlighted a number of times before, Digi’s PhoneFreedom 365 program is better suited for existing Digi customers with good payment history. If you’re new to Digi, you’ll need to fork out an insane high advance payment which is almost as much as buying the iPhone outright without a contract.

As shown above, the iPhone 12 mini 64GB costs RM3,399 and Digi demands RM2,928 during registration. Meanwhile, the iPhone 12 Pro Max 512GB which retails for RM6,699 would require RM5,878 payment upfront.

It would make more sense if Digi had offered customers an EPP option to pay the device price over 24-months with 0% interest. Unfortunately, there’s no standard contract option which could have reduced the barrier of entry for new customers.

iPhone 12 + Apple Watch 6 Combo

If you need to complete your iPhone experience, Digi is also offering a combo bundle where you can pick up the new Apple Watch Series 6 together with your new iPhone 12. You can get the iPhone 12 mini with the Apple Watch Series 6 from RM166/month or the iPhone 12 Pro Max with the Apple Watch Series 6 from RM241/month on instalment.

For more info, visit Digi’s PhoneFreedom 365 page for the iPhone 12 series.
