This is it folks, the Proton X50 launch date is finally revealed and it’s happening next Tuesday. Due to the current CMCO and COVID-19 situation, the new compact SUV will be announced through a virtual event.

Proton X50 Virtual Launch

The X50 official launch is taking place at 10:50am on 27th October 2020. You can catch it live on Proton’s official Facebook Page.

The X50 is one of the most anticipated SUVs of the year and it manages to rake in 20,000 bookings in just two weeks. For those who are curious about its pricing will finally find out during next week’s launch event.

Proton X50 Standard, Executive, Premium Flagship variants

The X50 comes in 4 variants and 2 different engine options. The highest Flagship model gets a more powerful 1.5-litre TGDi 3-cylinder turbocharged direct fuel injection engine that pushes 177PS (175hp) and 255Nm of torque. Its claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time is 7.9 seconds and has a rated fuel consumption of 6.4 litre per 100km.

Meanwhile, the lower 3 spec variants – Standard, Executive and Premium gets a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged port injection engine that produces 150PS (148hp) and 226Nm of torque. The new 3-cylinder engines are jointly developed by Geely and Volvo, and features more than 10 parts to improve its Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH). All 4 variants get a 7-speed DCT similar to the Proton X70 2020.

In terms of safety, the highest flagship model gets the full Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with Level 2 autonomous driving features. The ADAS system is more advanced than the Proton X70 with the inclusion of Adaptive Cruise Control with support for Stop & Go traffic, Lane Keep Assist and also auto parking assistance feature. The new SUV was given a 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating and this was based on its entry-level variant which comes with only 4 airbags. You can check our related posts below for further reading.
