After introducing the MatePad Pro, Huawei Malaysia is now releasing its affordable model that’s simply called the MatePad. It’s RM1,000 cheaper than the Pro version but it retains a similar slim-bezel design as well as quad-speakers.

The Huawei MatePad is officially priced at RM1,399 and it will be available throughout Malaysia from the 9th of September 2020. This is the WiFi version that comes with 64GB of storage.

Huawei Malaysia is also bundling a free keyboard and freebies worth up to RM500. This includes Huawei Video (3 months), Huawei Book (until 31st December 2020), Huawei Member Centre Rewards and 15GB Huawei Cloud Storage (12 months) . The device will be available on the official Huawei Store. Interestingly, the MatePad is already listed on Lazada but it only comes with free flip cover.

Hardware Specs

The Huawei MatePad comes with a 10.4″ FullView IPS display that pushes a Full HD+ resolution of 2000×1200 pixels. It runs on a 7nm Kirin 810 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. If you need more, it can support microSD card expansion up to 512GB.

The table gets a n 8MP main camera on the rear and a 8MP selfie shooter. For a more immersive audio experience, the MatePad also comes with a quad-speaker setup enhanced by Harman Kardon. It also gets 4 microphones for clearer voice pickup and noise reduction during video calls.

The MatePad also supports the M-Pencil stylus but it is sold separately. Similar to the Pro version, you also get a Multi-Window and Huawei Share for better multi-tasking. Powering the tablet is a 7,250mAh battery and it charges via USB-C. The spec-sheet states that the tablet comes with a 10W charger (5V/2A). Unfortunately, you don’t get any wireless charging support like its more expensive MatePad Pro.

Being a new Huawei device, it runs on Android 10 with EMUI 10.1 skin on top along with Huawei Mobile Services. This also means that you won’t get Google apps and services pre-installed and you’ll have to depend on Huawei’s AppGallery to discover apps.

As a comparison, the Huawei MatePad Pro WiFi is going for RM2,399 while the MatePad Pro 5G version is priced at RM3,299. If you’re looking for something cheaper, the Huawei has also announced the MediaPad T10 which is priced at RM799. On the 9th of September, you can get it for only RM499 during its first-day sale.
