OnePlus has long been rumoured to be working on a pair of TWS headphones to complement the company’s current range of Bullets wireless headphones—and now, the rumours have been confirmed. OnePlus has confirmed via an official Tweet that the OnePlus Buds will launch alongside the OnePlus Nord on the 21st of July 2020.

Unfortunately, the folks over at OnePlus are still keeping their cards pretty close to their chests, and we still don’t have much concrete information like specs, or even how the headphones will look. 9to5Google predicts that the OnePlus Buds will have a design that will be similar to the Apple AirPods, although the charging case will take design cues from the Google Pixel Buds.

Now you know the name. See our first truly wireless earphones July 21. #OnePlusBuds

We don’t know anything about the features of the upcoming OnePlus Buds, but I certainly hope that they feature ANC—at the very least. With the TWS headphone market getting more and more saturated, it can certainly be difficult to gain a foothold in the market. Still, OnePlus has a track record of being disruptors—so it’s interesting to see what the company’s first stab at TWS results in.

I’m also guessing that the OnePlus Buds could be the “surprise gift” that pre-order customers were promised, although this is purely an educated guess at this juncture. In any case, the OnePlus Nord is set to arrive in Malaysia along with 5G support, and a Snapdragon 765G processor. Speculation also claims that we’ll be seeing a 6.55″ display with a 90Hz refresh rate.

What’s also interesting is that the new phone and earbuds will be launched as the world’s first AR-based smartphone launch, according to OnePlus—which reflects continued changes in large scale events due to COVID-19. At a price of just under USD500 (~RM2,137), it looks like OnePlus is going back to its “flagship killer” roots.
