Samsung Odyssey G7 gaming monitors available for pre-order in Malaysia, priced from RM2,399

Samsung Malaysia Electronics has introduced its new high-end WQHD (2,560 x 1,440 pixels resolution) gaming monitor the Odyssey G7. Samsung debuted the curved-monitors, each boasting a 240Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time, at the Consumer Electronics Show 2020 in Las Vegas earlier this year.

Pricing and availability

The Odyssey G7 will come in two sizes, 27” and 32”. They are officially priced at RM2,899 and RM2,399 respectively.

Gamers who want to get first dibs on the Odyssey G7 will be pleased to know that the pre-order will be available at Samsung Malaysia E-Store from 10 am on 29 June 2020 to 5 July 2020. Customers that pre-order the models will receive a bonus Samsung soundbar (while stocks last). Depending on the model, you will receive either the HW-T450 Soundbar (2020) or HW-T420 Soundbar (2020). Refer to the chart below to check out the pre-order bonus you get for each model.

Features and Specs

The Odyssey G7 possesses a sleek matte black exterior that is paired with a dynamic curved shape. Behind the monitor, it features a circular lighting that can be customised with five different colour modes. It also has a height-adjustable stand so gamers can adjust the monitor to their preferred viewing angle.

Samsung lists the display as a Vertical Alignment panel, which combine the advantages of IPS and TN panels though with some compromise. VA offers higher refresh rates compared to IPS panels and better colour reproduction than TN panels. It however, does have as great a response time in comparison with other panel type.

As mentioned earlier, the monitor possesses a high refresh rate of 240Hz that offers blur-free images with no ghosting while gamers can respond quicker to the action on the screen. Input lag is also kept to a minimum thanks to the super-fast 1ms response time.

According to Samsung, the monitor is G-Sync compatible so it is able to syncrhonise the display’s refresh rate with GeForce GTX-powered computers, eliminating screen tearing and minimising display stutter and input lag.

Apart from that, the monitors have a 16:9 aspect ratio, max brightness of 350 cd/m2 and 2,500:1 contrast ratio.

Samsung claims the Odyssey G7 boasts a maximum curvature of 1000R, that is said to offer a more immersive picture viewing experience for viewers. It is said to allow gamers to see the whole screen at once without having to exert their eyes when playing long gaming sessions.

In terms of connectivity, the Odyssey G7 has 2 Display Ports, 1 HDMI, a headphone port and two USB 3.0 ports. The monitor weighs 8.2kg with the included stand for the 32″ model and 7.2kg for the 27″ model . Users can also orientate the display either in portrait or landscape.
