COVID-19: Malaysia records 16 new cases today, lowest since MCO started

The number of new daily COVID-19 cases have dropped to a new low with 16 cases recorded today. This brings the total number of cases in Malaysia to 6,742 and there are also no new deaths reported today.

There are also 110 new recovered cases today, which brings the total number of recoveries and discharged to 5,223. The recovery rate currently stands at 77.47% while the mortality rate is 1.62%. The death toll remains unchanged at 109.

At the moment, there are 1,410 remaining active cases that are isolated and receiving treatment. 16 are currently in ICU and the number of patients requiring respiratory support has dropped to 3.

Out of the 16 cases today, 3 are imported cases and 9 are non-Malaysians. The ministry has also added that there are no new cases on the 3 EMCO clusters, namely Pusat Bandar Utara and surrounding areas of Kuala Lumpur wholesale market, Selayang Baru and PJ Old Town market at Jalan Othman. Meanwhile, the Cheras security guard cluster has reported 2 new cases. There are no new cases at 31 other active clusters.

As of 12pm on 10th May, there are 9 red zones remaining which are located in the states of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Sarawak. 76 areas are yellow zones while 116 are labelled as green zones.

Today marks the lowest number of daily cases since the MCO had started on 18th March 2020. The previous record low was on the 5th of May with 30 new cases. The last time Malaysia recorded less than 20 daily cases was on the 12th of March with 9 cases.
