MCO: Maxis offers free data for users to stay updated with trusted news

[ UPDATE 21/3/2020 12:20 ] According to Maxis, they will continue to add more sites to help Malaysians to stay informed without utilising their existing data quota. There’s no end date for the free data offer and it is expected to last throughout the MCO period.

=====

Maxis has revealed that they are offering free data to its postpaid and prepaid customers during the Movement Control order. Instead of giving an allocated amount of free data quota, Maxis is providing free access for selected news and government websites.

The list of sites includes the Ministry of Health, the Prime Minister’s Office, the World Health Organisation and local news sites such as The Star, News Straits Times, Astro Awani, Berita Harian, Harian Metro, Sin Chew and more. There’s no mention of the free data period at the moment but it is likely to last at least until 31st March 2020.

The Movement Control order will currently last until 31st March 2020. During this period, all Malaysians are required to stay at home and to only go out to get essentials or when it is absolutely necessary. The police have also clarified that all outdoor recreational activities are not allowed.

In case you missed it, all Maxis Centres and Maxis Exclusive Partners will be closed temporarily until 31st March 2020. However, their self-service kiosks will remain available 24-hours for bill payments, SIM card replacements and prepaid top-ups.
