Celcom to offer the Apple Watch Series 5 with LTE in mid-December

Celcom has announced that the Apple Watch Series 5 with cellular support will be available on their network on the 13th December 2019. For those who are interested, the device will be available for pre-order beginning next Friday, 6 December 2019 at all Bluecube stores and 33 selected Celcom Certified Partners.

Prior to this, Digi was the first and only telco to offer the LTE connected smartwatch in Malaysia. Unlike the standard Apple Watch without cellular support, this LTE version will allow you to stay connected without having your iPhone next to you. You can stream music and answer or make voice calls directly from your wrist.

The Apple Watch Series 5 cellular variant uses an eSIM and it will utilise the same mobile number as your main iPhone. Interestingly, Voice over LTE (VoLTE) is required to enable voice calls on the Apple Watch and it isn’t available at the moment on Celcom’s network. With this announcement, this could be an indication that Celcom will switch on VoLTE by the middle of next month, leaving Maxis as the only provider in Malaysia to rely on 3G for voice calls.

To recap, the Apple Watch Series 5 cellular variant is officially priced from RM2,199 for the 40mm version and from RM2,399 for the 44mm size. Alternatively, Apple has also brought in the previous-gen Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular support and it can be yours from RM1,299 for the 38mm size.

Celcom has not revealed its Apple Watch Series 5 cellular bundling just yet. We expect the telco to reveal more details on its website when pre-order is available next Friday.
