New year new gaming phone and this time it’s Asus’ turn to launch their brand new beast of a smartphone, the ROG Phone II. It’s a killer mobile gaming device with high-end specs and all the bells and whistles you’ve come to expect from ROG. Here’s everything you need to know.

Asus’ ROG Phone II will come in two variants. The base model with 512GB of internal storage will be priced at RM3,499 while the top-end model with 1TB of internal storage will retail for RM4,499.

On top of that, there’s also a special accessories combo that includes the ROG Phone II, as well as a bunch of the gaming accessories, and even a cabin-sized luggage case for RM6,999. But, this special combo is only available on Lazada.

Alternatively, you can also pick up the accessories individually. The Lightning Armor Case is priced at RM199, the Kunai GamePad is priced at RM499, the Mobile Desktop Dock is priced at RM599, and the TwinView Dock II is priced at RM899.

At the moment, only the 12GB RAM + 512GB storage variant is available, while the higher-spec 1TB version and other accessories will be arriving in November.

ROG Phone II specs

The ROG Phone II features all the best specs you could have in a high-end flagship smartphone in 2019. At its heart, it packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor, that’s mated to a whopping 12GB of RAM. It also utilises UFS 3.0 storage in either 512GB or 1TB configurations. On top of that, you have a massive 6,000 mAh battery keeping everything powered. It also has fast-charging support via USB-C and ASUS includes a 30W fast-charging brick in the box.

Upfront, the device features a large 6.59” Full HD+ AMOLED display that has a fast 120Hz refresh rate so you get buttery smooth and snappy performance in and out of the game. It also has a new GameCool II system that includes a 3D vapour chamber, heatsink and additional vents for better heat dissipation. If that’s not enough, the phone comes bundled with an AeroActive Cooler II fan attachment that you can strap to the back of the phone to help cool it (and your fingers) down.

For taking pictures, the gaming device features a similar rear camera setup as the ZenFone 6. It has a 48MP main camera that uses Sony’s IMX586 sensor and a secondary 13MP ultra-wide-angle shooter. If you need to take selfies or stream yourself while playing games, there’s a 24MP front camera that offers a 77.9-degree field of view.

Asus also upped the ante in the build department with a more expensive-feeling glass back without sacrificing on the angular gamer aesthetics. You’ve got an RGB ROG logo at the back that you can configure with Armoury Crate app that’s pre-installed on the phone.

Speaking of gaming features, the ROG Phone II also packs a pair of awesome stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack. AirTriggers also make a return—that’s the shoulder button function we saw on the first ROG Phone—but now they’re a little better with a little more functionality.
