The quad-camera Oppo A9 2020 is launching in Malaysia next week. This is Oppo’s new mid-range smartphone that comes with a large 5,000mAh battery and it even has a pair of stereo speakers.

We have received a unit ahead of the local launch but we are not permitted to reveal the full specs due to an embargo. However, we are allowed to share its external design and some key features which have been officially announced by the Chinese smartphone maker.

Upfront, the device has a familiar design with a large display that has a tiny “waterdrop” notch at the top. At the rear, it gets a curved back which has an interesting gradient effect that’s somewhat similar to the Xiaomi Mi 9T.

The rear also gets a quad-camera setup with three cameras aligned vertically in the middle while the extra camera is placed towards the right along with its LED flash. The main camera is a 48MP shooter while the secondary camera has a 119-degree ultra-wide-angle lens. For instant access, it still comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

For the first time for an Oppo smartphone in this segment, the A9 2020 finally uses USB-C for its charging port and it still retains a 3.5mm headphone jack. The frame around the device appears to be made of plastic since we can’t spot any antenna bands around its matte surface.

Another surprise is that the device comes with stereo speakers and it sounds rather balanced as the top earpiece is actually quite loud. Oppo has also revealed that it supports Dolby Atmos sound effects for a more immersive audio experience.

While we can’t talk about the hardware specs for the Malaysian unit, the A9 2020 specs have been revealed on Oppo Pakistan’s website. According to the listing, the device has a 6.5″ 1600×720 pixels resolution display and it runs on a Snapdragon 665 processor. What’s interesting is that the box content is listed with a micro USB cable instead of USB-C. This could be a typo or perhaps there’s a different variant for the Malaysian market.

The Oppo A9 2020 will be announced in Malaysia on 18th September 2019 and it will come with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. The full pricing and availability will be revealed at the event so stay tuned to us.
