Retailers offer full refund for Huawei devices if Google apps and services stop working

Huawei is about to face a wide range of restrictions due to its current ban by the US Government. Despite getting a 90-day reprieve, it is uncertain if Huawei smartphones can continue to have full access and support of the Android ecosystem from Google.

To give assurance that Huawei smartphones will still be able to run Google apps and services, several distributors and dealers in the Philippines are offering a full-refund program that covers new Huawei smartphones and tablets. This means if your Google Play Store, Gmail, YouTube or even Facebook stops working, you can demand a full refund for your device.

Initially, it was reported that the campaign was from Huawei Philippines but several media outlets have updated that it is actually an initiative of their authorised distributors and dealers. The full refund campaign is seen as a move to provide greater peace of mind for potential customers and it covers a period of two years.

According to tech site, the two-year guarantee is valid for phones and tablets purchased between 15th June to 31st August 2019 in the Philippines. The campaign covers the following models:

Huawei P30 Pro
Huawei P30
Huawei P30 Lite
Huawei Mate 20 Pro
Huawei Mate 20
Porsche Design Huawei Mate 20 RS
Huawei P20 Pro
Huawei P20
Huawei P20 Lite
Huawei Nova 3
Huawei Nova 3i
Huawei Nova 2 Lite
Huawei Y Max
Huawei Y9 Prime 2019
Huawei Y9 2019
Huawei Y7 Pro 2019
Huawei Y6 Pro 2019
Huawei Y6 2018
Huawei Y5 2019
Huawei Y5 Lite 2018
Huawei M5 Lite 10
Huawei M5 Lite 8
Huawei M3 Lite 8
Huawei T5 10
Huawei T3 7

This is an interesting move from a distributor and it does help to inspire customer confidence especially for those who have second thoughts about getting a new Huawei device. So far this campaign is only available in the Philippines. It will be interesting to see if this campaign is offered in more markets including Malaysia.

Huawei has previously iterated that they will still continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to existing Huawei and Honor smartphones and tablets that have been sold or still in stock globally. Even before the 90-day delay was announced, Android had also assured that Google Play will continue to function on existing Huawei device.
