This delightful Chinese New Year short film was shot on the iPhone XS

Chinese New Year is around the corner and naturally brands would like to take the opportunity to connect with their audience, Apple is not different. In conjunction with the festive period the company has released a delightful and heart-warming story about a son’s journey to the big city and a mother’s love that knows no bounds.

It is a story that you must watch all the way to the end. I don’t want to give too much away but those who have a ‘kampung’ will understand exactly what it feels like to go back to the big city.

The video ends with a wonderful little note: The taste of home will always bring us back.

What is more interesting for me is the work that goes on behind the camera. While there may be other phones that can arguably, take better pictures, the iPhone XS is a powerhouse when it comes to videos thanks to its 4K capabilities, superior detail and colour reproduction, and image stabilisation.

The film is directed by critically acclaimed Chinese director Jia Zhangke and it is certainly inspiring to see what a master can do with his craft even with a seemingly simple tool like a smartphone.

More info about the short film here (in Chinese).
