Beware of fake Nokia banana phones in Malaysia

Early this month, HMD Global had introduced the new Nokia 8110 4G in Malaysia. This is a tribute to the iconic Matrix phone which is also known as the banana phone. The Finnish smartphone brand is aware that there are cheap knockoffs of the Nokia 8110 being sold online and they want consumers to be cautious when it comes to dubious offers.

The original Nokia 8110 4G will come with a see-through packaging as pictured below. You can see a graphic motif at the sides while the top of the device comes with an AVAXX seal. The IMEI number can be found at the bottom of the box.

If can take a closer look at the device, there’s a clear Nokia branding at the top of the 2.4″ display. The Nokia 8110 4G only comes in Black and Yellow and the microphone is placed at the bottom of the keypad.

Over at the back, you’ll see a prominent Nokia branding in the middle and it has a rear camera with white lining along with a flash LED. For the removable battery, “HMD Global” is printed on the label and there’s also an AVAXX hologram sticker on it.

Obviously, HMD Global will not entertain warranty claims and customer support for counterfeit products so be sure that you’re buying the real deal that’s distributed by AVAXX Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd. On most e-commerce platforms, you can seek for a refund if the item is listed with a return policy.

The Nokia 8110 4G is officially priced at RM285 in Malaysia. If someone is offering the device at a price that’s too good to the true, then it probably is. You can learn more about the device in our announcement post.
