The Desire 12 and Desire 12+ are HTC’s budget 18:9 smartphones

With even more Full View or 18:9 smartphones flooding the market, HTC thinks it has a shot with its new Desire 12 and Desire 12+. These are their latest 18:9 smartphone offering which aims to provide a big screen experience that’s easy to your wallet.

The Desire 12 is a 5.5″ smartphone while the Desire 12+ is the bigger brother with a 6.0″ display. Both push a lower HD+ resolution of 1440×720 on an IPS LCD panel.

For the Desire 12, it runs on a MediaTek MT6739 Quad-Core processor that’s mated to 3GB of RAM and it comes with 32GB of onboard storage. If you need more, it is also expandable up to 2TB via microSD. For imaging, the Desire 12 comes with a 13MP f/2.2 PDAF main camera while the front gets a 5MP f/2.4 selfie shooter.

Powering the device is a 2,730mAh battery and it charges via a microUSB port. In terms of design, it gets an HTC U11 inspired Liquid Surface design and it uses a durable acrylic glass back surface with a seamless frame with curved edges.

The bigger Desire 12+ runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor that’s also mated to 3GB of RAM. It has 32GB of onboard storage which is expandable via microSD.

Over at the rear, it gets a dual-camera setup with a main 13MP f/2.2 shooter and a secondary 2MP camera for depth of field effects. Over at the front, the Desire 12+ gets an 8MP f/2.0 selfie camera with beautification features and LED flash. For quicker unlocking, it even comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Powering the Desire 12+ is a slightly larger 2,965mAh battery which also charges via microUSB. Out of the box, the Desire 12+ runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with HTC Sense skin on top.

Both models will be available starting April 2018 and it comes in Warm Silver and Cool Black. So far HTC has yet to provide any pricing details for the Malaysian market.

At the moment, there are a lot of affordable FullView smartphones in the Malaysian market. You have the Huawei Nova 2i, honor 7X, honor 9 Lite, Nova 2 Lite, vivo V7, Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus that offer a lot of phone for your money. Price will be a key factor here and we are told that the Desire 12 and 12+ could be priced under RM1,000 in Malaysia.
