Huawei Malaysia is introducing another nova smartphone. Could this be the nova 2s?

UPDATE: The upcoming device is a FullView smartphone that’s powered by Qualcomm.

The Huawei Nova 2i is one of the best value for money selfie-centric smartphone that comes with a FullView display. While its sub-brand, honor, is expected to unveil the new honor 9 lite, Huawei Malaysia will be launching yet another nova series smartphone in our market very soon. Details are quite scarce at the moment but we are guessing this could be a higher-spec nova smartphone that comes with better cameras.

According to its teaser, the new nova smartphone offers double the cameras and double the likes. On top of that, it will run with EMUI 8.0 which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

The teaser also mentions the inclusion of an HD dual-camera which could be better than the current 16MP + 2MP (back) or 13MP + 2MP (front) setup on the nova 2i.

Since the nova 2i is now priced at RM1,099 and you can get a Mate 10 for RM2,299, there’s now a gap for a mid-range device and this new nova could be the perfect phone to fill up this void. For the lower price segment, there’s already the honor 7x and the soon to be announced, honor 9 lite. This leads us to believe that the upcoming smartphone could be the Nova 2s.

The Huawei Nova 2s was introduced in China in December 2017 and it’s a step up from the current Nova 2i. It has a slightly bigger 6.0″ FullHD+ display and it runs on a flagship-class Kirin 960 processor, which is the same unit powering the Huawei P10 and honor 8 Pro series. In China, the Nova 2s comes in either 4GB RAM + 64GB storage or 6GB RAM + 128GB of storage.

For imaging, it gets a 20MP (Monochrome) + 16MP (RGB) f/1.8 cameras at the rear, while the front comes with a 20MP + 2MP f/2.0 camera combo for selfies. Powering the nova 2s is a 3,340mAh battery which charges via USB Type-C. Since this is a new Huawei device, it runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 skin on top.

Do note that this is just our assumption for now and Huawei could be releasing a different phone. They have not revealed any launch dates yet and we expect Huawei to reveal more details in the coming weeks.
