Samsung has finally launched its new Galaxy A8 (2018) series in Malaysia. These are their new premium mid-range smartphones that offer dual-selfie cameras along with IP68 dust and water resistance. Announced globally last month, the Galaxy A8 (2018) series is priced from RM1,799 which is much lower than we originally expected.

Galaxy A8

The Galaxy A8 (2018) comes with 5.6″ FullHD+ (2220×1080) SuperAMOLED panel that has an tall Infinity Display 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Like its flagship models, it uses glass for both front and back along with a flush metal frame. Under the hood, it gets an Exynos 7885 Octa-Core processor (2x 2.2GHz + 6x 1.6GHz) that’s mated to 4GB of RAM and it has 32GB of onboard storage which is expandable via microSD.

Samsung wants to elevate your selfie game by offering not one but two selfie cameras up front. It has a 16MP f/1.9 camera plus a secondary 8MP f/1.9 unit for Live Focus. Over at the rear, you get a 16MP f/1.7 main camera with PDAF and the fingerprint sensor is now positioned below the camera lens.

Powering the Galaxy A8 (2018) is a 3,000mAh battery which supports Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charging via USB-C. Out of the box, it still runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and it comes with addition software features like an Always-on display and Dual Messenger. The Galaxy A8 (2018) also supports Samsung GearVR as well as Samsung Pay.

Galaxy A8+

If you’re looking for something bigger, the Galaxy A8+ (2018) features a larger 6.0″ FullHD+ display and the specs are higher with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The Plus model also gets a larger 3,500mAh battery and the rest of the specs are identical to the smaller 5.6″ Galaxy A8 (2018). In terms of connectivity, both models also support NFC, Bluetooth 5.0 and 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5GHz) WiFi.

36 Comments for Samsung Galaxy A8/A8+ (2018) with dual-selfie cameras have arrived in Malaysia. Priced from RM1,799

imho for rm2499, better get a OnePlus 5T

The best feature of the A8 is dual sum with dedicated SD slot.

    The only reason I got A7 2017

Is the A8/A8+ displayed at the samsung store from today onwards?

RM 1799 for A8 is quite acceptable, except errgg… the 32GB ROM, SME should have bring in 64GB ROM version, RM 2499 for A8+ is way too pricey it should be RM 2299 instead, then again looking at J7plus & Note 7 FE price drop within months of launching, a waiting game is worthwhile… lol

It will drop very fast. Its all a supply and demand issue anyway.
High price is to milked those who wants the first bragging rights of using the latest model….

Great comment. It’ll be best to wait for even one year after launch. Haha

More interested in the A8+ however RRP too high.

Anyway will be able to purchase it from online retailers hopefully for 2k to 2.2k plus goodies and lucky draw.

Chinese flagship makers are still no match against the A8+ in terms of price, specs, brand recognition and plus other incentives in comparison.

Only brand recognition that is not match. Price and specs are better with Honor View10

      Lee Dong Kim

Honor View10 display are made of LCD IPS, questionable DDR4 / UFS, no free goods, lucky draw entries and lastly a lower end sub brand and built quality.

Its almost the same if purchase online with a lower price tag

Standard dulu : below rm500 low end
rm1000 mid range
rm2000+ high end

Standard sekarang: below rm100 low end
+-rm2000 mid range
rm3000++ high end

oh why??

    Mohammad Hafiz

    typo rm1000 low end

Cos RM dropped a lot and smartphone packed a lot of hardware / features compared to Nokia N97, Blackberry or Sony Ericcson 🙂

Because not only Malaysia is under inflation, everywhere else does. Their staffs need pay rise too. Can’t you see everyone needs Starbucks and drives foreign cars now?

The price for Samsung Galaxy A8+ is the exact overpriced mark up that Samsung wants to make into Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018).

However, in less than few more weeks, the duo will be overwhelmed by new phones from incoming MWC 2018. That’s justify a part of their pricing strategy to woo customers while A8 got acceptable asking price, but A8+ got absurd price. Don’t start with higher storage and more RAM excuses etc, that’s ridiculous reason.

It is a bad idea to put Nougat into 2018 Premium midrange phone. Even some 2018 low midrange and high midrange phones are getting Oreo out of the box, not even to say about this premium midrange phones.

Huawei-Honor getting stronger especially using AI technology and Samsung cease to offer better features unlike yesteryears. They just rebrand, renamed and renumbered the same thing, the same phone, each years without much different.

Apple are like German Cars: Overpriced but premium built and brand recognition.

Korean and Japanese: Mid to Upper range price.

Chinese and Malaysian: Lowest class tier in terms of brand recognition therefore must be underpriced in order to stay competitive.

      Lame comparison.

Even Apple iPhone is assembled in China, your so called low class place. Chinese manufacturers products nowadays are in the same level or even better in term of quality yet they are selling with lower prices sometimes.
Your almighty Samsung have had their Note 7 exploded after their own mistake not to check their batteries’ safety level.

By giving a brand recognition based on racial discrimination, you still can’t get it right.

Apple = German cars? Germans don’t take more than a day to replace a battery.

better go for one plus 5t seriously

Mana mana la .Jenama ni dah tak boleh pakai lagi lol .

Note FE still a better bargain

Samsung marketing pricing fall this time.

Nasib i sudah lari to Sony .Exynos chip.If Qualcom still ok but Exynoss . Less Bloatware was the reason for the swap because of Motherboard A7 First Gen and A9 Pro rosak .

May I know which Sony phone are you referring?

Sony XA1 Ultra . Standard Phone only . But the new Sony XA2 Ultra is better bigger batrery power and better camera .

      Sony XA1 Ultra

How is your experience using Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra?

Especially in term of software, battery endurance, camera, and its Mediatek SoC performance.

Xperia XA2 Ultra is quite a big upgrade from previous XA1 Ultra in term of SoC, battery, 4k video, and even fingerprint sensor ability.

    heyy yo

Nowaday samsung has less bloatware, only the necessary software

Yeah right .Just saw the new one at Samsung Shop Is a nightmare and a diaster . Anyway the preinstall if remove during waranty . Waranty will void . They added silly pre install .But then Depend on user also . For me i dont use all of them .And the repeat will always run . To play safe u only can disable it so that it wont run in background .

nak satu

Will wait for another 3 months for RM400 price drop. Or hoping to get super bargained A5 (2017). Both run Nougat anyway, and need to pray for Oreo too.

Please avoid this phone. Youre better off with a Note FE (which is cheaper than tha A8+)! definitely better main camera with OIS and superb low-light, a front facing fingerprint scanner, and the list goes on. heck, top up a bit more and you can get an S8 or S8+!

the full-view screen isnt much of use imo, but the battery (gauging from A7 2017) will be great with that frugal mid-range processor.

unless you really need a samsung branded selfie camera with dual front lenses this might be a tempting buy.

For those people with rm2k budget. 50% will buy this phone, the remaining will go to Huawei, Asus, the well researched will get the Oneplus 5T. The ifans will get the outdated 6S.

Huawei Nova 2i still stands as the best affordable midrange phone now with price tag of just RM12++ with top notch spec..if you don't need a IP68 certified, USB-C charging and Super Amoled display than can easily go for Huawei Nova 2i and you will never regret a bit..

Do not buy nova 2i. You think it is the best value but actually you are paying extra for nothing. If you buy this you will regret and realise it is overpriced and you can get the same phone for a much cheaper price. Get honor 7x. 95% same and rm200 cheaper. I got mine for 999. A lot people don’t know honor and Huawei are same company but with Huawei you are only paying extra for brand.

Price fail LOL….
Not worth it
Better huawei nova 2i
