OnePlus 5T Malaysia

For those who have been waiting for the OnePlus 5T, you can pre-order your unit starting today. These are official Malaysian set that comes with a 1-year official warranty by Brightstar Malaysia.

The OnePlus 5T is an upgraded version of the OnePlus 5 featuring a taller 6.01″ AMOLED display in an 18:9 aspect ratio (2160 X 1080). Over at the back, the dual-camera system has been revised with a 16MP + 20MP f/1.7 camera combo while the front comes with a 16MP shooter.

The rest of the hardware remains unchanged with a Snapdragon 835 processor that comes with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM along with 64GB or 128GB of storage respectively. There’s a 3,300mAh battery which charges quickly via USB Type-C using its DASH charging brick.

The official OnePlus 5T Malaysian pricing is as follows:

OnePlus 5T 6GB RAM + 64GB storage – RM2,449
OnePlus 5T 8GB RAM + 128GB storage – RM2,749

It’s RM61 more than the equivalent OnePlus 5 model when it was first released in Malaysia. As a comparison, the OnePlus 5 6GB RAM version was priced at RM2,388, while the 8GB RAM model is going for RM2,688.

If you’re interested, you can place your pre-order from DirectD. Stocks are expected to arrive on 23 December, which is just 2 days before Christmas.

Its really baffling to see the price hike, when since the release of OP5, to now, the release of OP5T, the Malaysian Ringgit has gained against USD. I suppose the distributor are widening their margins at the expense of consumers. SAD.

When compared to Apple this is peanuts. Someone at Apple thought it is a good idea to use almost British pound exchange rate for Malaysia iPhone price. USD = RM5.1??? $999 iPhone X selling more than RM5k.

Apple is different. They knew they gained their consumer's trust thus the price doesn't really matter. People will buy them (eventhough the dock is locked to 4 apps maximum ever since the initial iPhone released 10 years ago).

It is SAD indeed. While our RM is definitely not strengthen by much per se, it should definitely reflect by having price drop even by just a little. Here, price can go up but can’t never go down unless is an old model / stock clearance sale. Someone is definitely getting greedy here. From all the way high as a politician/law maker to the lowest of hierarchy, everyone is trying to squeeze the consumer.

You.. definitely agree with your statement.

Malaysians are simplistic, there are many other factors affecting price, not just currency exchange, one of them is supply and demand of components and parts, many phones are getting more expensive in 2017, not just OnePlus 5T. If RM did not up a little bit, the price would be more expensive.
