Summoning a Tesla Model S using your Apple Watch is the coolest thing ever

You’ve got to love Elon Musk aka a down-to-earth real life Tony Stark. The man behind Paypal has come a long way since the early 1990s.

Taking his time in between companies to envision Mars with human settlements through SpaceX; making efficient zero emission cars through Tesla Motors; and conceptualising a transportation system that’ll change the way we commute altogether through Hyperloop, the South African-born 44-year-old has a lot on his plate.

But today, we’re going to be talking about the Tesla Model S and its autopilot app called Remote S. Basically, the app lets you check up on your electric car and even get it to drive without anyone in the car.

Tesla released the new feature in their latest “Autopilot” update (version 7.1) that includes the “Summon” feature, allowing you to remotely control your car.

Now it’s limited to only “summon forward” and “summon reverse” within 39 feet but CEO, Elon Musk says “eventually, your Tesla will be able to drive anywhere across the country to meet you”. He predicts the fiction will turn into fact in two years.

For myself, the thrill of owning a car would be to drive it but having an option just to sit back and let your vehicle do the work for you during long cross-state drives would be a great addition.

Musk also touched on that snake-like charging plug. Yeah, the one below that’ll blow your mind.

He says that it’s still under wraps, being developed in the confines of Tesla HQ with plans to bring it to market only after they’ve made it look sexier. We’ve never seen a Tesla in real life but we’re hoping that’ll be soon since GreenTech Malaysia has already started leasing programs to selected parties.

And if they have an Apple Watch handy, we’d love to take a video of this summoning!
