EverythingAndroid has a quick preview of the upcoming official Twitter App update for Android. It spots a fresh UI but functionality wise it looks pretty much the same as the current version. According to the source, the new version puts great emphasis on speed and we can see that the new UI places most of the important areas such as twitter mentions and DM more prominently at the top.
Hopefully the new version supports multiple accounts which is absent in the Android version but available for other platforms. We don’t like however is the big note of “Pull down to refresh” at the top of the feeds which is quite wasteful in terms of screen use.

Tune Talk has announced via twitter that twitter SMS is now available on their network. This is similar to the twitter SMS service offered by DiGi and Maxis.
The only detail we got is to SMS “START” to 28933 and that’s about it. There’s no info on how much it cost but we are guessing it is RM1/week like DiGi/Maxis and probably 5 sen for each SMS request. Tune Talk is probably too excited about the announcement and they forgot to tell its subscribers how to use it.
We we’re told from a subscriber that tried and all he got was “Facebook texts are now turned on” after SMSing START to the provided number. Strangely they didn’t provide any instructions on logging into your twitter account and other various commands. Tune Talk, this is not good at all. Please test your product and provide clear guide for your subscribers before announcing a half baked feature to the world.

According to @maxiscomms, they are also giving a 7 days free trial upon activation. For more details, head to Maxis’s tweet2me page here.

If you are still wondering which is the best Twitter Application for your Android, Richard from Engadget has a detailed comparison of 8 Twitter Apps.
Twitter’s official app may be one of the better looking ones but it still lacks other neat and commonly used features found on 3rd party apps. In the end, beauty is only skin deep and Engadget lists its top 3 favourite apps with breakdown comparison of tweeting features of each app.
Some nifty non-standard features include replying to all mentions, saved timeline position, ability to post videos and more.
Head on to engadget to read more about it.
In case you missed it, Mashable also has its own comparison too.

Twitter has announced on its blog that they have officially released an App for Android, saying that “Robots like to share too”! You can download Twitter for Android at the Market by searching for “Twitter”.
We’ve downloaded the app and we are liking it. The Interface is simple yet packed with all the tweeting features you ever need. On the front screen, you get the latest trends appearing at the bottom.
Like any other apps, it also features notifications that checks for alerts in the background. The only downside is the lack of multiple twitter account support which you can get in Seesmic. Another limitation is that the Twitter Android is only for Android 2.1 and above.
This is just the beginning as the Twitter team promises more to come for the Android.
