Maxis offers Nokia X3 Touch and Type FREE on data plan

Posted:  October 5, 2010   By: soyacincau   4 comments

Maxis offers the Nokia X3 Touch and Type for FREE with 24 months contract of 500MB data plan of RM58/month. This FREE offer is applicable for subscribers that are on Value Plus 50 and above. Not a bad deal considering the phone retails at RM610.

In addition, Maxis is giving an extra RM10 rebate monthly, which means your monthly data plan is just RM48/month. That’s only RM98 a month if bundled together with Maxis Value Plus 50. There’s no mention however if this is eligible on higher 1.5GB or 3GB mobile internet plans and we find no reason why they should leave the higher plans out. We think 500MB is quite little for RM48 a month, and for couple extra RM10 notes monthly, you can get triple the data quota.

The Nokia X3 Touch and Type (X3-02) is their first candy bar phone that offers both keypad and touch screen inputs. It runs on S40 platform with various necessities like HSDPA, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth. From Maxis site, looks like 4 colours are offered: White, Gun Metal, Lilac and Pink. You can read up more details of the Nokia X3 Touch and Type in our previous post.

Nokia introduces new C3 Touch and Type

Posted:  September 15, 2010   By: soyacincau   1 comment

It is Day 2 at Nokia World 2010 and they have announced another device, the C3 Touch and Type or better known with the code C3-01. We are getting a little annoyed with Nokia’s confusing naming conventions. The original Nokia C3 is a entry-level QWERTY candybar device introduced a while back. The new C3 Touch and Type is Nokia’s 2nd device that incorporates both keypad input and touch screen interface after the X3 Touch and Type. Touch and Type usability give users the best of both worlds by having simplicity of the touch while having the familiar control of the keypad.

This entry level S40 device is nothing much to shout about. It has a 2.4″ resistive screen with 240 x 320 resolution that displays a mere 262,000 colours. Screen aside, the C3 Touch and Type does give you bare essentials such as HSDPA (up to 10.2Mbps), HSUPA (up to 2.0Mbps), a 5MP Camera, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and a micro USB slot, all encased in a stainless steel body. Unfortunately GPS is not available for the device like its earlier X3 Touch and Type sibling. On board, there’s 30MB of storage and it is expandable up to 32GB via MicroSD.

The good thing about the C3 Touch and Type is that it uses the normal keypad layout that most of us are familiar with. As mentioned earlier, the X3 Touch and Type used a different layout with its last row keys shifted towards the sides.

The C3 Touch and Type is priced at €145 (approximately RM588) and it comes in 3 colours – Warm Grey, Silver and Khaki Gold.

More details on the specification here.

Nokia X3 Touch and Type launched

Posted:  August 17, 2010   By: soyacincau   4 comments

Nokia has revealed the X3 Touch & Type that offers a 2.4″ QVGA touch screen and a 12-button keypad. According to Nokia’s SVP of Design, the keypad is great for single handed texting while the touch screen offers the easiest control on the interface, giving users the best of both worlds.

This “Hybrid” input device has dimension of 106mm x 48mm x 9.6mm which makes it one of Nokia’s slimmest devices to date. It also just weights a tiny 78g. On the technical aspects, the device offers 3G/HSPA, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, FM Radio and a 5MP Camera which are pretty standard for today’s phone. However we find it odd that they left out bluetooth and GPS which should come standard with in a phone like this.

The device runs on Symbian Series 40 Touch & Type edition and for storage, it has a removable microSD slot that supports up to 16GB. The X3 Touch and Type comes in 5 vibrant colours – White Silver, Dark Metal, Petrol Blue, Pink and Lilac.

Design wise, the X3 Touch and Type is simple yet sleek with a brushed aluminium finish for the back. On the front, keypad however is slightly different with the typical last row keys such as hash, asterix and zero moved to the right most column.

The X3 Touch and Type is expected go retail by this quarter at about €125 (approximately RM500). It will released first in China, Ireland & UK, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Germany, Spain, Portugal, France, Mexico, Saudi & Yemen. Other countries are to be released later.
