HTC’s upcoming 7″ tablet, the HTC Flyer seems to be coming to Malaysia very soon. Maxis via its Maxis 10 programme has announced on twitter that they are accepting new applicants to review the HTC tablet.
The HTC Flyer runs on a single core 1.5GHz processor with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and comes with a 7″ screen supporting 1024×600. It comes with 4000mAh battery and weights 420 grams. You can check out more details of the specs here.

HTC has finally joined the tablet bandwagon with its HTC Flyer. While its rivals are moving on to 10 inch tablet format, HTC decided to stick to 7 inch as its dimension of choice. While it looks like another Samsung Galaxy Tab, the Flyer is no slouch as it packs a powerful 1.5GHz processor and a massive 1GB of RAM which should make it more quicker to run. Also included with the Flyer is a Magic Pen which allows you to write notes, scribble and edit photos on the go.
Unlike the latest range of Android tablets taunting Android 3.0 Honeycomb with dual-core processor, the Flyer seems to be running on single core but at a higher 1.5GHz. Another surprise is that it runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense skin on top which we’ve been told countless of times isn’t a proper tablet experience as intended by Google. Perhaps, HTC is confident that even without honeycomb, they are still able to deliver a rich tablet experience with their custom skin.

Tablets are getting more popular lately thanks to the iPad with more coming from the Android, Windows and BlackBerry stable. However such device are still a luxury to many considering it costs RM1000-RM3000 depending on specs and options. India has been talking about developing low cost tablet but that still seems far from reality right now.
What if you’re just looking for a tablet that works exactly like a clipboard with a bunch of paper? Now, there’s a tablet that does just that! At $99, NoteSlate is a low cost tablet with a single colour display and battery that lasts for 180 hours! It has a 13″ matte monochrome eInk display which has a resolution of 750×1080 pixels. The screen is said to be A4 sized, which makes it similar as the real thing. Of course at this price point, you don’t expect the fancy features as a full fledge tablet. There’s no apps and it even lacks a browser. However you do get a mini-USB, SD card slot, a 3.5mm jack and MP3 playback capabilities. Strangely WiFi is a free option but we’re not sure what it is used for.
There are several body colours available which comes with its colour matching E-ink. If that’s too limited, Noteslate has also mentioned that a multi-colour version is on the way with 4 e-ink colours.
Currently the basic noteslate is expected to hit the market in June 2011 and if you’re interested, you can sign up for their newsletter for the latest updates.

Bloomberg has reported that RIM will start selling the 7″ BlackBerry Playbook in North America in Q1 2011 under US$500. That’s under RM1550 in our local currency today. According to RIM, the Playbook pricing is competitively priced against Apple’s iPad which starts from US$499. We can only hope that BlackBerry Malaysia will make it more affordable than the Galaxy Tab which retails at RM2699 for outright purchase.
It is too early to tell how well iPad’s real competitors will fare at the moment. The Samsung Galaxy Tab has just launched and the Playbook has yet to make an appearance. The new tablet rivals would also need to prepare themselves for a new iPad which is expected to offer newer features and a possible price reduction. So far the major differenciator for the tablet now are screen size & flash support. Looks like 2011 would be an interesting year for tablet wars.

After weeks and weeks of rumours and speculation, BlackBerry has finally revealed it’s debut tablet device with the unlikely moniker — the PlayBook. At least BlackBerry proved the rumour of its tablet carrying name BlackPad as completely unfounded.
RIM claims the BlackBerry PlayBook is a professional grade and comes with a 7in touch-screen which is exactly the same size as the on on the Samsung Galaxy tab, larger than the Dell Streak and smaller than the 9.7in touchscreen on the device that it is competing directly against, the Apple iPad.
On paper, the PlayBook is packed with decent hardware to ensure that it can keep up with what the competition has to offer. Processing power is provided by a dual-core 1GHz processor with a whopping 1GB of RAM. In comparison, the magical iPad packs a 1Ghz processor with a paltry 256MB of RAM. Unlike the iPad the PlayBook has two cameras. There’s a 3MP foward-facing camera that’s will be used primarily for video calls and the likes while the rearward facing camera uses a 5MP sensor. No information on whether it can record HD videos at the moment but with the HDMI-out feature, why not.
Connectivity-wise, the PlayBook boasts HDMI-out and USB connectivity along with native capability to pair with BlackBerry smartphones for what we think is for data connectivity or sharing of media. There’s WiFi and Bluetooth on board but at the moment there’s no 3G connectivity built-in though RIM has indicated that this feature might be included in future incarnations of the PlayBook. Also, the PlayBook is capable of churning out 1080p video playback.
For the PlayBook, RIM abandoned BlackBerry’s own smartphone OS — the BlackBerry 6 — for a bespoke BlackBerry Tablet OS that delivers a navigation experience that is akin to that of Palm’s WebOS platform.
To the BlackBerry fans out there, if you’re all fired up to get one of these PlayBooks you’ll have to wait as there early reveal doesn’t make for an early launch. First units of this tablet will only hit the stores early 2011 in the US with an international launch slated for Q2 2011.
As always, we will try to get you the latest updates on the PlayBook as and when it happens, so keep it locked on to SoyaCincau.com
In the meantime, head on over to after the jump for official promo video of the BlackBerry Playbook and an official press release from RIM

RIM is believed to be unveiling a new tablet at a developers conference next week. This was rumoured to be the BlackPad but we believe RIM would give a better name for this BlackBerry Tablet. Some are even suggesting it could be called the SurfBook.
According to an article by WSJ, the tablet device is 7″ and it features either one or two cameras. Connectivity wise, it supports bluebooth and broadband connections but said to be exclusively possible through an existing BlackBerry smartphone device.
Another surprise is that it doesn’t run on BlackBerry 6 that was launched recently. Instead the tablet is to be running on a new platform built by QNX Software System which was recently acquired by RIM. So there you have it, now Apple, Android and Blackberry will be having their own tablets. We can’t wait to see the device next week.

Gadget site Electronista struck gold when its witters stumbled upon a telco worker live testing the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab, of all places, in a public transport.
The device, caught on video, looks to confirm the prelim specs put out by Samsung. The Galaxy Tab will have a seven-inch screen (here’s hoping its reinforced with Gorilla Glass), it will be running Android 2.2 and have 3G, and it could be running the same processor as the Galaxy S.
In the video, the telco tester using the Gaaxy Tab says that it is “very different” from the iPad (which he claims he has used before) and is “awesome”.
The appearance of the Galaxy in Australia suggests that Samsung is looking at an international launch for the device and considering that Australia is close to us than the US, this could mean that the Galaxy Tab could be en route to Malaysia as well. Possibly to do battle with the Dell Streak.

Samsung could reveal its first Android based tablet at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin which runs from 3 to 8 September if a report from English Korean news site, JooAng Daily, is correct.
The website cites an unnamed “high-ranking official” in Samsung as the source for the report. Apart from the speculative launch date, little else is known about the Samsung tablet.
Though some rumours claim that the so called Galaxy Tab will run similar hardware as the Galaxy S which includes a 1GHz processor with a dedicated GPU, 512MB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. In addition to that, the Galaxy Tab will also pack a 7 inch display and a 4000 mAh battery. On top of that, the Galaxy Tab is reported to be able to make video calls.
We’re wondering if the 7 inch screen will be similar to the eye-watering Super AMOLED type as seen on the Galaxy S. It certainly will boost the chances of the Galaxy Tab against the iPad.

A few days back, it was reported that RIM had purchased the domain name Blackpad.com. This sparked rumours that a possible new Blackberry tablet/ipad-like device is in the works.
A blackberry tablet was rumoured couple of months ago which said to feature a 8.9″ screen and connects via Bluetooth and WiFi only. It is also said that the focus is towards multimedia, ebooks or basically a tablet for the home, considering it lacks 3G cellular connectivity. This is a totally different product from the usual Blackberry range of products.
Nothing is concrete at the moment but we are eager to see what Blackberry could do with a tablet format which is currently dominated by iPads and with Android making an entrance soon.
