While we have the HTC Incredible S and Desire S launched recently, the next device to look out for is the HTC Sensation. This will be the HTC’s flagship Android smartphone featuring a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and a high resolution qHD Super LCD display that supports 960×540 resolution.
Smart phone hardware is just half the story and HTC has released a video that showcases its HTC Sense 3.0 software in a 5 minute video clip. Among the exciting features to expect is an active lockscreen which gives you essential shortcuts without unlocking the device. This is somewhat similar to what’s being offered on Samsung Galaxy S‘s TouchWiz lock screen.
While most smart phone these days are boasting high MP count of 8MP and above, the HTC Sensation is stepping up the game with its instant capture camera. From the video, this lets you snap pictures instantly so that you’ll never miss a shot again. For taking pictures instantly, we’re wondering if it can match the Xperia arc’s camera performance.
Another new feature they have mentioned in the video is HTC Watch, a movie on demand service which lets you watch premium movie content while on the go. The content is said to be streamed as progressive download which lets you watch it instantly while loading. We don’t expect this to be available in Malaysia but who knows, they might secure a content licensing deal for us folks in South East Asia.
So when is this phone coming to Malaysia? The LG dual-core Optimus 2X is already here and the Samsung Galaxy S II is expecting to make an appearance either end of this month or June. Since the Sensation has just being recently announced, we have a feeling it might reach here sometime between July and September. We just can’t wait.

While we wait for the launch of the Flyer and Desire S this Friday, HTC has just introduced its latest flagship Android smart phone, the HTC Sensation — the most powerful HTC smart phone ever.
The Sensation features a 4.3-inch qHD Super LCD screen with Gorilla Glass that displays a whopping 540×960 pixels. The display also features a contour design along the entire edge of the screen which HTC claims lend a premium feel to the device while at the same time protecting the screen from grit and sand when it’s placed screen-side faced down.
Processor-wise the Sensation is packing a 1.2Ghz dual-core Snapdragon with 768MB RAM and 1GB of internal storage. In the camera department, there’s an 8MP rear camera with dual LED flash and 1080p HD video capabilities. HTC says the camera offers instantaneous shutter response allowing you to capture images and videos faster. At the front you get a standard VGA resolution camera.
In addition the the plethora of wireless connectivity the Sensation supports both HDMI and DLNA output as well. Powering all this is a 1520mAh battery.
The HTC Sensation runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with the latest HTC Sense UI skin on top. The new Sense UI features HTC’s active lockscreen which serves live information, like weather and stock prices right without the need to unlock the phone. In addition the active lockscreen allows you to unlock straight into an app by dragging its link into an unlocking circle.
The HTC Sensation also brings with it HTC Watch video store which allows users to download movies and television shows by renting or buying them directly from the device. We doubt that this feature will be of much use here in Malaysia.
Asia launch window for the HTC Sensation is sometime between June and September (yes, we’re looking at you Maxis). Head on over the jump for a some promo videos of the HTC Sensation.

Celcom has started registration of interest of the Samsung Galaxy SL. So what’s with the extra L behind? From first look, it looks pretty much the same as the Samsung Galaxy S but there are distinctive differences between the 2. Firstly it uses Super LCD instead of the usual Super AMOLED.
According to Engadget, the processor is different as well as it runs on 1GHz TI OMAP 3630 processor instead of Samsung Hummingbird 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor. The battery is of higher capacity at 1650mAh and as a result, it is thicker at 10.59mm vs 9.9mm in the Galaxy S model.
Overall, the Galaxy SL looks like an extended battery edition of the Galaxy S but sacrifices marginally on screen and dimensions. The difference between Super LCD and Super AMOLED should be barely noticable and it is also good to know that the Galaxy SL also comes with its toughen Gorilla Glass. From the Celcom’s Galaxy SL spec sheet page, it runs on Android 2.2 Froyo and comes with 16GB 4GB of internal storage. There is also another variant of the Galaxy SL destined for Asian markets like Malaysia where the internal storage drops to 4GB rather than 16GB presumably in a bit to reduce cost further.

With HTC announcing its switch to Sony’s Super LCD display, many are wondering how does Super LCD compare to AMOLED? Howard forums had recorded a video to compare LCD (Motorola Droid/Milestone), Super LCD (HTC Desire), AMOLED (Nexus One) and Super AMOLED (Samsung Wave) displays.
Overall, the Super LCD is very similar to AMOLED display unless it is viewed sideways where the AMOLED reign supreme. Contrast for the Super LCD still loses out to AMOLED display but it is barely noticeable. HTC did mentioned that using Super LCD will give “better” battery life compared to AMOLED but so far we haven’t heard anything that proves this.

In an official statement, HTC confirmed that they will be using Super LCD developed by Sony as displays in devices like the Desire and Nexus One.
Though not officially indicated in the statement, it is a widespread understanding that Samsung’s AMOLED display are in short supply and demand for HTC devices are strong that they have to look at other display alternatives to ensure that they are able to keep supply in check.
We haven’t had any experience with SLCD but it’s going to be interesting to see how it compares against AMOLED and Apple’s Retina Display technology.
Interestingly, when it comes to displays, Samsung is the world leader with 1 in 5 panel TVs being a Samsung.
