The Sony SmartWatch is now available in Malaysia through an exclusive deal on Groupon. Priced at RM399, there’s no discount and if we are to believe the description, this is the only way to buy it right now.
The SmartWatch acts as a secondary screen for your Android smart phone where you can check who’s calling, text messages, social updates and even control your music. Not only does it support the latest Xperia S, it also supports previous Xperias including Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X8.
According to the full specs, it is also somewhat compatible with non-Sony Android phones such as HTC Desire S, HTC Wildfire, Motorola Defy, Samsung Galaxy S II and Motorola RAZR.
The SmartWatch comes with a black colour watchband and each order comes with a Sony T-Shirt. If you’re interested, head over to Groupon.

The Sony Xperia S which was launched in January is Sony’s current flagship model with dual core 1.5GHz. With the competition gearing up for quad-core smart phones, Sony isn’t taking things lightly. The next flagship device from Sony dubbed “Hayabusa” has somehow made an public appearance on Picasa. The sample shots are nothing to shout about but the EXIF data reveals a much newer firmware than the current versions. This time, it better be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.
In terms of specs, the LT29i is said to be running 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and comes with a 4″ and above display that pushes 1196×720 pixel resolution. The weird resolution hints the usage of on-screen capacitive buttons like the Galaxy Nexus.
Based on earlier leaked Sony launch schedule, the Hayabusa will be launched sometime in July with a higher price tag than the Xperia S. After which, another high end device is expected to appear in September with the working model name of ‘Mint 1′.

In the past 2 years, the Android smart phone players are getting obsessed with having the biggest screen, the most core processor and the thinnest dimensions. We are seeing more brands jumping onto the dual-core bandwagon with screens being upsized beyond the standard 4.3”, which was considered huge back then.
Sony which is formerly known as Sony Ericsson in particular hasn’t been keeping up with such trend with the former flagship the Xperia arc S running on a single core 1.4 Ghz processor and still having a moderate sized 4.2” display. Despite that, there’s still one thing that stands out from Sony, and it is the design of their phones.
Early this year, Sony has revealed its new Sony Xperia NXT series of handsets with the Xperia S. It was also the first Android smart phone under the new Sony Mobile branding, after Sony has acquired full ownership over Sony Ericsson. It is interesting to note that Sony retains its familiar “s & e” slimeball logo with the new brand.
After our early preview in Shanghai, we had the privilege of using the Sony Xperia S for a long term review. Read on to discover our findings.
Some Sony Xperia S users have reported a defect where there’s a noticeable discolouration or yellow tint appearing at the bottom of the screen. There’s a support thread on Sony’s official site on the issue and finally Sony has come out with an official response as below:
Sony Mobile Communications has identified that the display on a limited number of Xperia S smartphones may show a slight yellow tint if exposed to temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. This is limited to a small number of units and the cause of this has been corrected. Any consumer observing this slight yellow tint on the display of their Xperia S is welcome to contact their local customer service centre and Sony Mobile Communications will resolve this at no cost to the consumer.
Anyone having similar issue here in Malaysia? Sony claims that this affects a small group of users and it happens if the Xperia S is subjected to high temperatures above 40 degrees. Good to know that Sony acknowledges such problem and are willing to provide a solution.

Check out Sony’s latest ad campaign to market its Xperia range of smartphones. The campaign centres on Sony’s “Made of Imagination” theme where Sony asks children to describe how they think a smartphone works. Sony then commissioned acclaimed Director Wes Anderson to turn imagination into something more tangible.
And the result is this first ad we see here. The one minute commercial took over 10,000 man hours to create and we think it’s every minute well spent.
We really like Sony’s new warm and fuzzy approach in marketing its Xperia range of smartphones. Backed by a strong product line-up for this year, Sony is making all the right moves to kick off what looks like a convincing return to being one of the world’s top device manufacturers. What do you think?
Head on after the jump for a behind the scene look at Sony’s latest Xperia commercial.

Sony has announced on its Japan site that the Sony Tablet S will be receiving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in April.
The upgrade brings the tablet to Android version 4.0.3 and it comes with several new features. Firstly, the Tablet S is able to stream videos recorded from compatible Sony Blu-Ray players with a downloadable app. Another new additional is its “Small Apps” which is basically calendar, remote control and a tiny browser which runs as an overlay on top of your active app.

Sony has revealed the new Xperia neo L, its first ever Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich handset. While some might be expecting something impressive like a dual-core processor, you might be in for a disappointment.
The Xperia neo L looks like a entry level device running one a single core 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor, 512MB RAM with 1GB of storage that’s expandable via microSD. Over at the front, it comes with a 4.0″ TFT screen that pushes 854×480 pixels. There’s a a 5MP camera that shoots 720p HD videos and a front facing VGA camera. Design wise, it certainly looks like a Sony Xperia PLAY without the game pad slider. The full white paper can be download here.
The Xperia neo L was launched in China along with the rest of the new Xperia devices such as the Xperia U, Xperia P and Xperia sola. Availability internationally and pricing is yet to be known.
With the Xperia neo L running on the latest Android 4.0.3, we can expect the existing Xperia NXT Series line up being upgraded soon. At the same time, Sony has also proven that Ice Cream Sandwich does work on a single core 1GHz device. Let’s hope they will keep their word on upgrading all 2011 Xperias.
