To promote the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia event at Sunway Pyramid, Sony Ericsson launched their own guerrilla campaign using remote control cars and the familiar green Andy Android robot. This certainly creates buzz and arouses curiousity of on lookers to find out what it is all about. Kids will definitely be the first one to react upon seeing toy cars moving about in public places.
The idea however isn’t the first as it was done before by Sony Ericsson in France during their X10 Mini campaign.

Sony Ericsson is having an event at Sunway Pyramid this Saturday, 4th December where they are doing a firesale for the Xperia X8. First 8 units are going for RM8 and the next 8 are going at RM88. The next inline until the 50th will get it at RM449. Those who are looking to buy the Xperia X10 will stand a chance to get a free bluetooth headset valued at RM129.
The roadshow is happening from tomorrow until Sunday but remember that the firesale is only on Saturday. More details at Sony Ericsson’s Facebook page here.
Just to recap, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 retails at RM899 when we first spotted it on PBBeMall. It runs on Android 1.6 but recently it was announced that Android 2.1 update is being rolled out.

Finally Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 gets its Eclair (Android 2.1) upgrade right behind its bigger sibling the Xperia X10 several weeks ago.
The roll out is going to be gradual and you can check if your X8′s serial number is on the list. Visit Sony Ericsson’s blog post for the full list.

Sony Ericsson has just announced that they have started shipping the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 worldwide but we find it odd as it has been in the market already. In Malaysia, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is going for RM899 via PBBemall.
The problem here is that Sony Ericsson is still sticking to Android 1.6 and there’s no clear indication when newer updates are available. It is foolish to launch a “new” phone today without Android 2.2 Froyo and X8 to be launched with 1.6 is certainly a bad choice considering new apps requiring 2.X and above.
Despite numerous rumours or statements that a new update is coming, people are getting fed up with Sony Ericsson as indicated in their blog comments for the Xperia X8 announcement. We’re not sure what’s going on with Sony Ericsson. If they are committed with Android platform, they shouldn’t compromise with software updates. It is a shame considering Sony Ericsson is a pioneer mobile device manufacturer to end up this way. If they don’t buck up, they might as well exit the Android platform.

PBBemall, an online store by Public Bank has started offering the Sony Xperia X8 through one of its merchants.
The retail price is supposedly RM999 and it is currently offered at RM899 on their site. Surprisingly this mid-ranged Android device is sold quietly without much announcement by Sony Ericsson. The last we heard is when it was introduced sometime in June with expected release in Q3 2010.
Compared to the X10 Mini, the X8 has a higher HVGA 320×480 screen but sacrifices on camera with a lower 3.2MP. As usual, it runs on Android 1.6 which they are still shouting is upgradable to newer version in future.
Check it out at PBBemall. It even comes with free shipping.

The Xperia X8 is officially announced as the latest Android device from Sony Ericsson. This will be a mid-ranged device that joins its siblings the Sony Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro.
Despite being the latest, the X8 which will only be sold in about 5-6 months time is still running the aged Android 1.6. This is a big problem with Sony Ericsson as they keep releasing new phones running old OS versions while the rest of the Android players are busy upgrading their handsets to 2.2 (Froyo). By the time X8 is on sale, this could be the oldest running Android phone sold in the market.
