Galaxy Y Owners Get Free LMFAO Concert Tickets. 1,000 Up for Grabs

Samsung Malaysia is giving away 1,000 tickets to the “LMFAO Live in Malaysia 2012″ concert happening on Thursday, March 29 at the Surf Beach in Sunway Lagoon.
You will need an original with Samsung Galaxy Y (with Samsung warranty) to get the free tickets. All you need to do is show your Galaxy Y at the Sunway Pyramid, Orange Entrance Outdoor Area. The redemption period is from 1000hrs to 1200hrs today (March 10). Each Samsung Galaxy Y owner gets two tickets for the LMFAO gig.

It’s pretty cool what Samsung Malaysia is doing for customer loyalty. We like the concept of just flashing a Samsung device to be rewarded. It’s simple, very well targeted and it works.
Maxis offers Android & Windows Phone bundling on Value Plus Internet

Maxis finally introduces some smart phone bundling with its lower commitment Value Plus Internet plans. With this offer, you can get a Samsung Galaxy Y from RM99, a HTC Explorer from RM199, a HTC ChaCha from RM299 or a Nokia Lumia 710 from RM499.
Usually a phone bundling from Maxis requires a normal postpaid plan such as Value First/Value Plus with bolt-on data. With this offering, your monthly commitment starts as low as RM50/month for Value Plus Internet which comes with data, calls and SMS. Of course, these plans are more suited for those with light usage and those with heavier usage should consider the standard bundling with bigger internet quotas.

Maxis offers entry level Androids for bundling

For people that won’t want to spend a lot on phones, Maxis now offers 2 entry level Android smart phones for bundling. The Samsung Galaxy Y and HTC Explorer are both offered from RM0 with 24 months subscription of 3GB data plan.
On the lowest commitment and duration option of 12 months bundle of 1GB, the Galaxy Y and Explorer can be yours for RM349 and RM499 respectively. Since these are entry level device, it is surprising that Maxis isn’t offering lower data options such as 200MB and 500MB for the two.
To recap on the specs, the RM499 Galaxy Y is a 3.0″ QVGA device which runs on 832MHz processor and comes with a 2MP camera. The RM759 HTC Explorer meanwhile has a larger 3.2″ HVGA screen with 600MHz processor and has a 3MP camera.

U Mobile offers Samsung Galaxy Y on contract bundle

If you’re looking for an affordable Android smart phone with an affordable plan, U Mobile is now offering the Samsung Galaxy Y on its new postpaid plans.
The Samsung Galaxy Y is a decent entry level device at its price point below RM500. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and a modest 832MHz processor which retails at RM499. On U Mobile, it is offered at RM399 on U28 plan, RM199 on U58 and FREE on U88.
To recap on the plans (U28, U58, U88), they come with 1GB, 2GB and 3GB mobile internet quota respectively with either free calls/sms or both. To make it easier to purchase, U Mobile is also offering 6 months easy payment programme as well. When signing up, U58 and U88 requires some advance payment of the subscription fee while U28 requires no upfront payment. The device bundle is tied with a 24 months contract.

Samsung reveals dual-sim Galaxy S II, Galaxy Y & Galaxy Y Pro

If you’re having something good, double it! That’s probably what Samsung is thinking as they have announced dual-sim versions of the Samsung Galaxy S II, Galaxy Y and Galaxy Y Pro. The models will carry the “DUOS” branding which Samsung’s dual sim range of devices.
For the Duos version of Galaxy S II, it is destined for China and it will support both GSM/CDMA2000 bands. On the hardware, it will feature a 4.52″ Super AMOLED Plus display, dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 8MP camera, 16GB of storage and a massive 1,800mAh battery.
For the Galaxy Y and Y Pro version, it will be catering for emerging markets. It has pretty much the same specs as the single SIM version but the screen is slightly bigger at 3.15″. The Y Pro in the other hand is the QWERTY keyboard version which has yet to make an appearance in Malaysia. There’s no mention whether these duos model will make an appearance in Malaysia.
For those that carry 2 phones, would you consider having a smart phone with dual-sim capabilities? If dual-sim phones are not enough, take a look at the Quad-SIM phone instead.
Samsung Galaxy Y now on Celcom

Celcom is probably the most active telco when it comes to Samsung Android devices. Looking at covering all market segments, Celcom now offers the entry level Samsung Galaxy Y which is priced at RM499 outright.
For Celcom Exec consumer plans, the Galaxy Y is offered as low as RM208 on 18 months contract of Celcom Exec 50 + Celcom Broadband Advanced. The subscription should be RM108/month but the commitment was written as RM250/month on their website. For light users, there are lower options of Celcom Exec 50 + mLite data and Celcom Exec 50 + mBasic which should be priced at RM78 and RM88 respectively.
The major thing that we couldn’t understand is the upfront payment for the Galaxy Y. Celcom requires RM300-600 upfront for a phone that is priced below RM500. Also worth mentioning is that the upfront payment is rebated over 12 months. As the Galaxy Y is already an affordable device, it is ridiculous for Celcom to demand such a high upfront payment. Perhaps this is a typo by Celcom’s website team as they have been prone to mistakes recently like their “Droid RAZR” and “1.5GHz Galaxy Tab 8.9“. We suggest contacting Celcom for more details.
For Biz users, it is offered for free with 24 months contract of P148 + SMS Pack RM2 package.

Entry level Samsung Galaxy Y revealed at RM499. Pre-order starts now

Yet another Samsung device appears and it is the Samsung Galaxy Y, an entry level Android smart phone. The pricing is written as RM499 outright with Superbuy offering it for a discounted price of RM475. At the moment, it is only available for pre-order which we believe full availability would be happening in the next couple of weeks. IMCC, a popular online retailer has yet to put up any details of the Galaxy Y.
The Samsung Galaxy Y is a replacement for the existing Samsung Galaxy 5/Mini which has been selling rather well for under RM700. Now at a much lowered RM499 price, it comes with a decent 832MHz processor, 3″ QVGA TFT screen, 2MP Camera and a 1200mAh battery. On board there’s 160MB of storage which is expandable via microSD. The Galaxy Y runs on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread.
Priced below RM500 mark, the Galaxy Y is probably the cheapest Android smartphone running on Android 2.3 in the market. Earlier on, we’ve seen the Samsung Galaxy W going for RM999 which is quite a bargain for a 1.4GHz Android with a decent 3.7″ WVGA screen. It is obvious now that Samsung is aggressively hitting the smart phone segment at all price range.
Let’s see if the HTC Explorer will be able to match the price tag.

Samsung announces four new Galaxy devices with streamlined naming

Along with the new naming convention, Samsung has announced four new Galaxy phones — one “W” (high-tier), one “M” (mid-tier) and two “Y” phones (entry-level) — that’s slated to make an appearance at next week’s IFA 2011 in Berlin.
First up, we have the Android 2.3 running Samsung Galaxy W packs a 1.4GHz processor and a 3.7-inch WVGA screen along with a 1500mAh battery. There’s also a 5MP camera in there somewhere.
Next, we have the Samsung Galaxy M Pro which also runs Android 2.3 and features a 1GHz processor with a 2.7-inch HVGA screen and a 5MP camera rear camera. There’s also a VGA front-facing VGA camera and a 1350mAh battery.
In the entry-level segment, we have the Samsung Galaxy Y and the Galaxy Y Pro. Both the Y and Y Pro are essentially the same device with Android, 2.3, a 800MHz processor and a 2MP main camera and a 1200mAh battery. The only difference is the Y Pro has a physical QWERTY keyboard and possibly a smaller screen than the 3-inch Galaxy Y.
And that’s about it but it’s by no means the end of it. Samsung has dropped hints that it will be introducing something big at this year’s IFA — the world’s largest trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances — happening in Berlin next week. It’s possible that Samsung will be launching a new flagship device but that’s not confirmed.

Samsung Galaxy range of phones — there’s a lot to choose from. By our count there are at least 10 types of Galaxy phones in various guises. In Malaysia the more popular ones are the S II, Ace, Gio and the 5. With so many variants with even more differences in specifications and prices points, it’s easy to get confused as to which Galaxy is which.
In a bid to make things clearer for the consumer, Samsung has announced its new naming convention for the Galaxy range. The Galaxy line of phones will be segregated into five different categories with three variants.
At the top of the order, you have the “S” range of Galaxy phones. S stands for “Super Smart” and is the flagship of the Galaxy devices. Next, you have the Galaxy R range. R stands for “Royal” and is used to represent devices that combines top-notch performance and design in a premium package.
Further down the Galaxy lineage, you have the “W” line which stands for “Wonder” and will be reserved for high quality specialty models. Then there’s the “M” (Magical) range of Galaxy phones that will boast decent performance at affordable price and finally there’s the “Y” (Young) range of Galaxy devices that will be targeted at a younger target with entry-level pricing catered to appeal for emerging markets.
In addition, these five classes will be further differentiated in three sub-classes — “Plus”, “Pro” and “LTE”. Plus” will indicate an upgrade to an existing model, “Pro” will add a QWERTY keyboard and “LTE” will signify the presence of LTE support in the device.
