The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet range is now available in Malaysia and they come in 2 forms – Galaxy Tab 2 7.0″ and Galaxy Tab 2 10.1″. In terms of specs, both are running dual-core 1.0GHz and both are the first tablets from Samsung that runs on the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
When compared with its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 doesn’t differ that much except that it weighs 23grams more and it is thicker by 1.1mm. The front facing camera has been downgraded from 2MP to 0.3MP. Screen resolution & battery capacity remains unchanged. Meanwhile the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0″ appears to be a notch lower than the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus as the processor on the 7.0″ Plus runs on much higher dual-core 1.2GHz.
The pricing according to the folks at Lowyat.Net is RM1,299 for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0″ and RM1,499 for Galaxy Tab 2 10.1″. To compare the specs of the current Samsung Galaxy Tab range, check out our tablet comparison post.

Samsung has revealed its 2 new Android tablets – Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) and Tab 2 (10.1). Although the hardware and size isn’t exactly new compared with the previous Galaxy Tab line up, both tablets run on the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
So how is it different from the existing Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and Tab 10.1? For the Tab 2 (7.0), it is basically a notch lower than the 7.0 Plus with a 1.0GHz dual-core processor and comes with a lower VGA front facing camera. In terms of dimensions, the Tab 2 (7.0) is slightly thicker by 0.5mm but it still maintains the same weight at 345g.
For the Tab 2 (10.1) which was just announced, it now comes with a microSD expansion slot, which is currently lacking on the Tab 10.1. However just like the Tab 2 (7.0), it also uses a low end VGA camera for the front. Dimension wise, it is slightly thicker by 1.1mm and weighs and extra 23 grams compared to the Tab 10.1.
Of course, there’s still one more tablet yet to be revealed, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. We are hoping that the Note 10.1 would be impressive and not just another rehash of the same product with a newer OS.
Since the hardware of the Tab 2 (7.0) and (10.1) are closely identical, we wonder when will Samsung roll out Android 4.0 ICS for its existing Galaxy Tabs? ASUS has already rolled out its Android 4.0 ICS update for the original Eee Pad Transformer.

UPDATE: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) & (10.1) compared with existing line up here.
Fresh from MWC in Barcelona, Samsung introduces its first line-up of tablets for 2012 with the launch of the Galaxy Tab 2 series. Not to be confused with the current range of Galaxy tablets, the Galaxy Tab 2 will include a 7-inch and a 10.1-inch version with possible stylus input similar to the one featured in the Galaxy Note. Starting from UK, the GALAXY Tab 2 series will be launched in global market from March.
Specifications of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and 10.1 with photos
coming shortly after the jump.
As if its product line is not confusing enough, Samsung has just announced the Galaxy Tab 2 – the company’s first Ice Cream Sandwich tablet and the proper replacement for the original 7-inch Galaxy Tab.
Not to be confused with the Galaxy Tab 10.1, which was once upon a time called the Galaxy Tab 2, the freshly announced Galaxy Tab 2 is a 7-inch tablet that shares some similarities with the Galaxy 7.0 Plus but with lower specs.
The Galaxy Tab 2 features a 1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM, in comparison, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus has a slightly faster 1.2GHz dual-core processor but with the same amount of RAM. However, the 7-inch (1024×600) PLS TFT LCD display on the Tab 2 is similar to the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, as is the 3MP rear camera. The front camera on is a VGA camera unit compared to the 2MP unit on the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. The Tab 2 is also thicker than the Tab 7.0 Plus at 10.5mm versus 9.9mm
Other than that, you get a Samsung TouchWiz UI skin with Live Panel, HSPA+ support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, A-GPS, 16 or 32GB internal memory, microSD card slot and a 4,000mAh battery. There should be WiFi-only and WiFi+3G versions as well.
No word on whether this device will be coming to Malaysia but the specs suggest that this device will sit at the bottom rung of the Galaxy Tab ladder of device. So if it does make it to Malaysia expect the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 to be cheap.
