Samsung is doing rather well with this customer loyalty thing. Previously the leading smartphone brand in Malaysia offered Samsung Galaxy owners free tickets to some of the biggest gigs in the country, with this latest offer it shows that Samsung is looking out for its older consumer segment as well.
Kudos where kudos is due Samsung.
When the new iPad was revealed, Samsung had thrown pot shots by having a comparison of their own. Obviously it wasn’t that fair as it left out other aspects of the hardware. To find out which is better on paper, we have laid down the details on a comparison table above.
In terms of display, the new iPad is much superior with its higher 2048×1536 resolution that gives a density of 264ppi. While it is no way near its iPhone 4 Retina display density, it trumps even the latest crop of HD Android tablets of 224-226 ppi. The processor of the new iPad 2 is still running dual-core but comes with an improved quad core GPU and double the amount of RAM compared to the outgoing model.
While the new iPad is thicker by 0.6mm, the battery capacity is tremendously increased to 42.5 Wh which is nearly double of the iPad 2′s 25 Wh. That’s approximately 11,666mAh which is heaps more than most tablets in the market right now. Having to support 4G LTE, battery life is definitely a concern and it is good to know that the new iPad has bumped up the battery capacity to maintain its 10 hour battery life. However in terms of weight, the new iPad seems to be the heaviest among the lot.
With current line up, the new iPad with its high resolution screen is looking like hot choice right now but perhaps not for long. Earlier, it is rumoured that Samsung is working on a 11.6″ tablet that would be powered by its 2GHz dual-core Exynos 5250 processor. The new Exynos is capable of pushing 2560×1600 display resolution which is higher the new iPad. Samsung is better known for developing new models rapidly and their recent abstinence from churning out high end models is probably a strategic move to see what their competitors are up to. Last year, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 was redesigned after the iPad 2 was introduced.
2011 was a big year for Android tablets but the iPad still manages to maintain its dominant spot for tablets. For 2012, it is no longer a battle between iOS and Android, as Microsoft’s Windows 8 tablet is expected to shake things up. The early previews have created some excitement and it is interesting to see if the final product is able to live up to its expectation.
Samsung won’t be revealing any Galaxy S III at MWC but according to new bits and pieces of information on the internet, we could be expecting a new 10.1″ device.
On Samsung’s developer itinerary and a commercial listing, it is suggested that a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is on its way.
Before you start imagining a 10.1 phonetablet, the Galaxy Note 10.1 would likely be a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with a S-Pen stylus. The stylus used be an old fashioned item however it has its own advantages for illustrating and handwriting. Even HTC Flyer and Motorola Xoom 2 offering stylus for its tablets.
There’s no details of the design and specs yet but hopefully Samsung would have a built-in S-Pen silo for storage. In terms of software, it is likely that it will be running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with the suite of S-Pen apps.

Galaxy Tab 10.1
Galaxy Tab 8.9

Samsung says they will make separate announcements on details of ICS update schedule for each market according to availability taking into account market situation and carriers’ requirements. If we hear anything, we’ll update you.

Samsung is really ballsy when it comes to letting people know that it’s not afraid of Apple.
Earlier Apple sought to obtain a court order to ban the sale of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia but after an early injunction, the courts ultimately ruled in Samsung’s favour allowing the Korean manufacturer to continue selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 — its answer to the almost ubiquitous iPad.
Samsung is quick to capitalise on its courtroom victory over Apple in Australia with a cheeky ad that is already grabbing a lot of attention with a simple yet powerful and certainly memorable headline — “the tablet Apple tried to stop”.
We think this is quite apt. Let’s hope Apple will take the battle out of the courtroom once and for all and bring it back to where it matters – innovation right in the consumers hands.

The table above illustrates the different hardware, physical dimensions and weight of each model. Knowing each of them are different, which one would you go for?

Kota Kinabalu and Kuching Galaxy Tab 10.1 fans, you can now celebrate. Regular tipster Rakyat Biru tells us that a reliable source has revealed that Celcom is expected to organise the RM999 Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 firesale to Kuching and Kota Kinbalu starting this Friday.
Details are scarce at the moment, but Rakyat Biru but has never been wrong before, so we’re inclined to believe that there is a lot of truth to this. We can’t confirm on whether Celcom will be doing the RM99 lucky draw stunt as well but once we know we will let you know. As always, only a limited quantity is available though you can expect similar Celcom pricing plan to be on offer
It’s good that Celcom is expanding the firesale deal to markets outside the Klang Valley. It’s an example that other operators can do not wrong in following.
Thanks for the tip Rakyat Biru!

UPDATE: Added more pics from event. Samsung Celcom had thrown some extra surprises with 25 people getting it for RM99 with someone even getting it for FREE. Also as informed by reader @matjoedotcom, the creative couple with their “hantaran” didn’t managed to get it for RM99.
The moment that most people have been waiting for is finally here. Since last night, there was already people lining up for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 firesale at e@Curve, Mutiara Damansara.
Good thing that these Galaxy Tab 10.1 hopefuls need not continue to line up standing for the rest of the day as Celcom has provided numbers and waiting area. This is a good move especially during Ramadan month. Samsung has shared several photos of the event as well.
Head after the break for more pics, including someone who gets a little bit creative to be in the running for the limited RM99 tablet.

The unconfirmed Galaxy Tab 10.1 plans is finally confirmed! To recap, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is bundled with Broadband Basic and Broadband Advance with RM68 and RM98 monthly subscription fee respectively. The subsidy amount isn’t really that much and you’re only getting between RM321 – RM431 worth of savings from its RM1,899 RRP.
There’s an upfront payment of RM150 which RM10 be rebated back to your bill over 12 months. If you do the math, that’s only RM120. According to the T&C, the balance RM30 will not be refunded as it is charged as registration fee. To save further, auto-payment via credit card gives you 5% rebate each month, which makes it RM65/month for Basic and RM93/month for Advanced. For any reasons that you would want to terminate the contract, a penalty of RM500 will be charged. On the broadband plans, Celcom Broadband Basic of 4GB fair use offer speeds up to 1.5Mbps while the Advanced plan offer speeds up to 3.6Mbps.
Some might wonder, is it worth it to queue up for the RM999 firesale and terminate the contract immediately? If you do the math, the upfront fee and penalty costs (RM150 + RM500), which makes it RM650 required upfront. So total with the RM999, that’s RM1649 which is RM250 savings compared to buying it outright. Of course, if you’re lucky enough to get it for RM99, that’s a total savings of RM1150 (paying only RM750 for the Galaxy Tab 10.1).
Good luck to those lining up for their Galaxy Tab 10.1 tomorrow.

UPDATE The hidden pricing appears to be a dud. Official Galaxy Tab 10.1 price from Celcom starts at RM1468 as per unconfirmed plans.
Now this gets even interesting. Apart from the tip off on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 plans and pricing, someone has unearthed the hidden plans on Celcom’s website. You can’t see it right now but if you dig into the source code of this page you’ll find the hidden contents.
From this discovery, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is instead bundled with mAdvance and mPro which are mobile internet plans bolted onto Celcom Exec postpaid plans. It also states an upfront payment of RM300 which is rebated back across 12 months.
Does this mean the Galaxy Tab 10.1 plans are no longer data only plans? Or could this be a dud and they might change to the unconfirmed plans that we’ve seen?
