Last week we saw some of the first smartphones to launch locally for the year 2017. They were upper mid-range devices from two of the top 5 smartphone manufacturers in the world and are designed to give you a flagship-like feel for below RM2,000. These devices are the Samsung Galaxy A (2017) and the OPPO R9s.
Despite the rather different marketing skews, these smartphones actually share quite a lot of specifications in common — chief of which are their selfie-centric 16-megapixel front-facing cameras and premium build. But which should you get if you wanted one?
Let’s see if we can help you decide.

Another year, another selfie-centric smartphone from OPPO. Only this time, they’re not calling it a Selfie Expert, probably because it doesn’t bear the F1 badge. Instead, OPPO Malaysia is shifting the focus onto their new R9s smartphone to the 16-megapixel primary camera at the back.
But, when the R9s also comes with a 16MP selfie shooter up front, you’re gonna wanna take some selfies too.
OPPO will be kicking the new year with the launch of the OPPO R9s. If you can’t wait to get your hands on one, OPPO Malaysia has started pre-orders where you can book your unit for RM100.
This could be the first local smartphone launch in 2017. OPPO Malaysia sent out invites for the R9s launch that’s happening next week on 5th January 2017.
After pushing its lineup of selfie smartphones, OPPO is now turning its attention to its main camera. Announced few months ago, the OPPO R9s promises great clarity with 16MP cameras for both front and back.
Prefer something darker? The OPPO F1s selfie expert is now available in Classic Black. Pre-orders are now open and it will be available in Malaysia on 17th December.
Here come the next wave of selfie-centric smartphones, the OPPO R9s and OPPO R9s Plus. These handsets build upon the original R9 duo’s formula with a little more kick added to the mix. Here are the details.
Great smartphones are getting affordable and affordable smartphones are also getting pretty great. These days, with the number of premium flagships launching in Malaysia sporting excellent specifications for a bargain price, we thought we’d throw together a list of high-end flagships that won’t break your bank.

Hot on the heels of the F1 Plus and the F1 the latest revision of OPPO’s “Selfie Expert” arrives at a slightly more reasonable price than the F1 Plus with some of the features of that device transplanted on to it, but not all of them.
