Mobile World Congress is a place where OPPO loves to showcase their technological breakthroughs. Last year, we saw a new fast-charging standard that topped up a smartphone’s battery in just 15 minutes. We also saw the SmartSensor three axis sensor stabilisation.
This year, OPPO is focusing on smartphone camera zoom and this is what they’ve come up with. It utilises two sensors and a periscope-style lens structure.
Samsung isn’t the only brand launching a huge phablet in Malaysia. Chinese smartphone maker OPPO has teased a new smartphone is coming our way and it’s going to be huge.
Smartphone shipments in Malaysia had dropped by 5.9% in 2016 versus the previous year according to IDC Malaysia’s latest report. They reckon this was likely caused by negative economic factors which include our depreciating ringgit against the US dollar.
Despite the annual decline, smartphone shipments had picked up in the last quarter and the top 3 brands were still able to increase their respective market share.

Valentine Day’s is almost upon us. It’s a time of love and the celebration of love and nothing can spell the name of your loved one quite like laser engravings. It’s also the time of incredibly overpriced merchandise designed to capitalise on this annual declaration of love.
OPPO Malaysia will be introducing the R9s Valentine Red Edition very soon. To make the deal sweeter, they are throwing something extra for those who place their pre-orders ahead of its official release.
After introducing the OPPO R9s, the selfie-centric smartphone brand is now releasing a red colour variant in time for Valentine’s Day. This also coincides with the current Chinese New Year festivities where red symbolises good fortune and happiness.
Last week we saw some of the first smartphones to launch locally for the year 2017. They were upper mid-range devices from two of the top 5 smartphone manufacturers in the world and are designed to give you a flagship-like feel for below RM2,000. These devices are the Samsung Galaxy A (2017) and the OPPO R9s.
Despite the rather different marketing skews, these smartphones actually share quite a lot of specifications in common — chief of which are their selfie-centric 16-megapixel front-facing cameras and premium build. But which should you get if you wanted one?
Let’s see if we can help you decide.

Another year, another selfie-centric smartphone from OPPO. Only this time, they’re not calling it a Selfie Expert, probably because it doesn’t bear the F1 badge. Instead, OPPO Malaysia is shifting the focus onto their new R9s smartphone to the 16-megapixel primary camera at the back.
But, when the R9s also comes with a 16MP selfie shooter up front, you’re gonna wanna take some selfies too.
OPPO will be kicking the new year with the launch of the OPPO R9s. If you can’t wait to get your hands on one, OPPO Malaysia has started pre-orders where you can book your unit for RM100.
