It seems to be raining tablets in Malaysia with massive offers and smaller sized tablets coming our way. The Motorola Xoom is now more attractive with another round of price cut. According to IMCC, the Motorola Xoom WiFi is now priced at RM1,399 while the Motorola Xoom WiFi + 3G version is going for RM1,599. That’s a massive price difference which is almost RM1,000 less from its launch price. This offer is valid from IMCC while stocks last.

Just to recap on the specs, both Motorola Xoom 3G and WiFi versions runs on a dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and comes with 32GB of internal storage. Just recently Android 3.2 Honeycomb update has been rolled out to Xoom users which puts it up to date with other tablets out there.

If you’re looking for a better bargain for the Xoom, you might want to check out Maxis RM299 Xoom 3G offer which recently resumed.

UPDATE: According to Maxis here and here, this promo will be resumed on 25th November 2011 and is applicable to all customers. The bundled plan is a 6GB package of Mobile Data that does not come with voice calls.

UPDATE 2: Maxis has published this offering on their website. According to their FAQ, the 6GB data plan can be subscribed as a standalone broadband only SIM or bolt-on on your existing postpaid voice plan. You can purchase a maximum of 2 units per IC number.

UPDATE 3: The FREE HTC Flyer and RM299 Motorola Xoom offer is extended until 31st December 2011. With anticipated demand for this special deal, we reckon it is valid while stocks last.

Maxis is throwing some time limited deals for the HTC Flyer and Motorola Xoom 3G tablets. With 24 months contract of Maxis 6GB Data Plan at RM98/month, the HTC Flyer can be yours for FREE while the Motorola Xoom 3G is offered at RM299.

DiGi too is offering broadband + tablet bundling plans with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It also comes with a 6GB data plan contract of RM98/month but with a duration of 12 months. However the subsidy amount isn’t as much with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 offered at RM1584.

Overall, this Maxis offer is a huge reduction from its original HTC Flyer and Motorola Xoom offering. According to their tweet, this offer is valid until 30th November.

Motorola has slashed its outright pricing for its Motorola Xoom honeycomb tablets in Malaysia. The 32GB 3G version can be yours for RM1,899 while the 32GB WiFi is going for RM1,599. The 3G version is now priced the same as Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. If we compare the specs between the two, the Xoom offers more storage at 32GB and it even comes with a HDMI output.

When it was announced in Malaysia, the Xoom was sold at RM2,599 for the 32GB 3G version and RM2,099 for 32GB WiFi. 2 months ago, it was dropped by RM200.

So if you’ve been eyeing for a Moto Xoom, now is the best time to get it. You can check out the pricing from IMCC network here and here.

Earlier this month, Motorola in the States revised the retail pricing for their Xoom tablet. Now, it appears that the price revision benefits local units for as well.

IMCC Network has just announced the new pricing for their Motorola Xoom stock. The 32GB 3G Xoom is now RM2,399 from RM2,599 while the WiFi only version with the same storage capacity is now priced at a rather enticing RM1,899 from RM2,099 previously.

The price drop for the local units of the Xoom coincides roughly with the US$100 price drop announced by Motorola in the US earlier. We’re not sure if other local retailers will revise their Xoom pricing but we don’t see a reason why they shouldn’t.

Motorola announced that it has reduced the pricing of the WiFi version of its Xoom tablet by US$100. After the reduction the 32GD WiFi version of the Xoom now cost as much as the 16GB iPad 2, both at US$499.

The Xoom was the world’s first Honeycomb tablet and during its early days, the Xoom was the model Honeycomb tablet for Android but despite all this the device didn’t gain a lot of popularity amongst users. One of the biggest gripe was the price — the Xoom was more expensive then its the king of the tablet hill, the Apple iPad 2.

In Malaysia, the 32 GB WiFi Xoom retails for RM2,099 which is the same price at the 64GB WiFi iPad 2. The question most would like to know is that will the recent reduction in price of the Xoom in the US spillover to Malaysia? Although many would like to think so, the most probable answer is, very unlikely.

One of the reasons is that current units of the Xoom that you see on the shelves of IT stores today have already paid for by the dealer, and so the price will remain. Even if new shipments come in post the US$100 drop, it remains to be seen if the policy applies to international units as well. So the new price might just be a US-only thing.

Well, we can only hope. In any case, if the price of the Motorola Xoom does come down in Malaysia, would that increase its appeal? What do you think?

IMCC has announced via facebook that the 3G version of the Motorola Xoom is finally here with a RM2599 price tag. It comes with 32GB of storage as well. This is RM500 more than the WiFi version offered by most retailers. Whether this price difference is worth the integrated 3G connectivity depends on you. If it was us, we would prefer to invest in a MiFi device which we could share the connectivity with multiple devices.

Maxis too will be bundling this device as well with its Ultimate plans but as we all know, it won’t be affordable on a monthly and upfront basis.

From the makers of the iPad 2 drop test, we have a new drop test video pitting the Apple tablet against the Motorola Xoom and the evergreen Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.

Both the Xoom and Galaxy Tab have screens strengthened with Gorilla Glass while the iPad is a bit of an unknown. It does have some sort of treated glass but it is not known if the glass is from Corning and by the looks of the video…well just take a look see.

IMCC is selling the Motorola Xoom for RM2,099, RM400 cheaper that the RRP that Maxis puts out for the device. With the money save, you can get a MiFi device to go with your WiFi Xoom. Settle!

The IMCC website looks a little bit suspect though but they claim that there are an “authorised dealer” of some sort.

Maxis has released their latest tablet service plans for the Motorola Xoom and the Dell Streak 5, and here are our observations on what they have to offer.

Motorola Xoom.
There’s not much of a service plan for the Motorola Xoom from Maxis. The Maxis Motorola Xoom plan is in actual fact a “get one free Motorola Defy” promo where you purchase the Xoom for RM2,499 from Maxis and then signup for a 3GB data plan with your choice of Maxis Value Plus plan to get the free Defy.

There is no option to purchase the Xoom with any other Maxis service plan.

Retailing for RM2,499 outright, you can’t deny that the WiFi only, 32GB Motorola Xoom is overpriced. Against it’s closest competitor, the WiFi 32GB iPad 2, priced at RM1,799, the Xoom is RM700 more expensive. In fact, for RM2,499, you can get the “top-of-the-line” 64GB 3G+WiFi iPad 2.

We’re not saying that the Xoom is not a capable tablet but it is really that awesome to command such a high price premium over its closest rival? We don’t think so.

With regards to the service plan, we’d rather Maxis offer just data plan with a MiFi device. If they can do it with the WiFi iPad why can’t Maxis do the same for the Xoom? It makes more sense and we’d gladly carry a MiFi — that is lighter, smaller and would probably have a better battery life — over an additional phone which we won’t be using to make calls on anyway.

So the Maxis Motorola Xoom service plan is lacking any appeal for us.

Update: Take a closer look at the camera specs stated in the image above. Maxis got it the other way around. Fellow techie Amanz pointed it out.

As a follow up to the April announcement, Maxis has started sending out email reminders to those who’ve signed up for the Motorola Xoom ROI announcing that the device will be available at any Maxis Centres from tomorrow (May 6).

Not much new information has been revealed. The retail selling price for the Xoom will be RM2,499 and customers who subscribe to a 24-months 3GB Maxis data plan will get a Motorola Defy worth RM1,599 for free.

Assuming that you don’t offset the cost of the device with the price of the free Motorola Defy, the RM2,499 Xoom is on the steep side considering that a similarly specced WiFi Xoom retails for US$599 — which is equivalent to about RM1,800 at today’s exchange rates. That is a difference of almost RM700 or about 28% on top of the US price. Also consider that for the same RM2,499 you could get the top of the line 64GB 3G+WiFi iPad 2. This makes the Xoom a bit of a tough sell in our opinion.

The Motorola Xoom is the first tablet in Malaysia to run on Google’s Honeycomb tablet OS and comes in 3G+WiFi or WiFi only versions. Maxis is bringing the WiFi only version at the moment.

As we’ve noted during the earlier announcement, we’d rather Maxis bundle the Xoom with a MiFi rather than a mobile phone as it is more practical considering that connecting the Xoom to the internet with the Defy functioning as portable hotspot will be an issue for the phone’s battery life.

No other details are available at this point in time but we’ll keep you posted if we find anything news.
