How about a Motorola RAZR with a slide out keyboard?

Posted:  November 27, 2011   By: soyacincau   1 comment

Before we had the RAZR, Atrix and Defy, the Motorola Droid or known as the Motorola Milestone (GSM) here was an iconic android smart phone. After the first Milestone, there wasn’t really a high-end Motorola with a sliding keyboard in Malaysia. We had the Motorola Charm, Backflip and Flipout with QWERTY keyboards but came with mid-tier specs.

For those that are craving for a proper high-end Android smart phone with QWERTY keyboard, Motorola is about to release its 4th generation Droid. It features similar RAZR-like design, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4.0″ qHD screen and a sliding 5 Row LED backlit keyboard. However unlike the Motorola RAZR, this QWERTY keyboard version has a back plate where it covers your microSD and micro SIM slots. This would be appealing for those that prefer to type on a proper keyboard instead of a capacitive screen.

With the sliding keyboard, it is thicker at 12.7mm and it weighs 178 grams. From the pics, it doesn’t get that sexy Kevlar back that’s found on the RAZR. The Droid 4, like the Droid RAZR is a 4G LTE smart phone which is exclusive to Verizon in the US. But hey, who knows they will release a “Milestone” version for GSM markets like Malaysia.

Motorola: Update to Froyo still under evaluation for APAC Milestones

Posted:  August 23, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

Motorola has announced its Android upgrade timeline for its devices and it looks like Milestone owners in Malaysia will have to wait indefinitely for a Froyo upgrade as Motorola as officially stated that Foroy upgrade for Milestones sold in APAC is still under evaluation.

You can into that all you want but we think Froyo ain’t going to come to Milestone owners here.

Head on after the jump to see what Motorola devices will get which Android OS and when.

Motorola Droid won’t support WiFi and USB Tethering with Froyo

Posted:  August 3, 2010   By: soyacincau   1 comment

One of the anticipated features of Froyo is the ability to create your own WiFi Hotspot. Unfortunately Motorola Droid users will not have this pocket MiFi or even USB tethering when they upgrade to Android 2.2 Froyo, which is to be released this week.

Verizon explained that the Droid lacks a WiFi transmitter and there’s no connection on the PC side as a reason. However some had opposed such explanation accusing Verizon of blocking users from using more data. It doesn’t make sense to blame on the hardware as users reported tethering works well with 3rd party apps such as EasyTether.

Since this is a telco-tied model, we wonder if Motorola Milestone in Malaysia faces the same limitation.

HTC EVO 4G gets Froyo, Moto Droid/Milestone next week

Posted:  July 31, 2010   By: soyacincau   No comments

While HTC users in China get to enjoy Android 2.2 Froyo on the current HTC Android devices, HTC EVO 4G users have officially gotten their Froyo update in the US. This makes it the 2nd phone to get Froyo after Nexus One over that side of the world.

The new update gave the EVO 4G similar Android 2.2 features plus a few stuff from HTC, such as a Flashlight app, updates on FM Radio, MMS and Photo Gallery apps. Android Central has a detailed list of the new changes in their EVO 4G Froyo post. As mentioned earlier, we should be expecting HTC’s Froyo update for the rest of us anytime soon.

For those who are having Android’s best selling Motorola Droid/Milestone,
an update is expected to come next week. Verizon, the official carrier for the Moto Droid in the US has updated its support page in time for the upgrade.

We should be expecting more announcements of Froyo roll out in the next couple of days. Samsung too has announced that the Galaxy S is getting Froyo by September. So far, the only quiet one is Sony Ericsson which seems to be stuck with Android 1.6 until today.

This is it folks! Q3 is showtime for Froyo.

A trio of official Yahoo apps hits the Android market

Posted:  July 2, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

Yahoo has just released a trio of official apps for the Android OS. If you use Yahoo a lot and have an Android powered phone you can now look forward to using the official Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo Search Widget apps on your device. Though the search widget is only available for download in the US.

Yahoo says that its Android app have been optimized for Motorola Droid/Milestone, HTC Incredible and the Google Nexus One. You’ll have to be running Android 2.0 to be able to use the app. So if you’re the dude with the G1, sorry man.

Both the Yahoo Mail and Messenger apps support almost all the features that you’re familiar with including rich text formatting, emoticons, and access to your Address Book.

In addition, Yahoo has also updated its Yahoo app for the iPhone, now with HTML5 support.

If reading is not for you, head on over to after the jump for the video news report. Also, a full list of features supported by the Android Yahoo apps plus the QR codes for you to download the app on your Android phone.

Here are some really interesting snaps taken from smartphones

Posted:  June 6, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

Not a lot of people know this but the iPhone is the number one camera on Flickr. That’s right, more people use the iPhone to take pictures and upload it on Flickr than any other camera in the market.

It goes to show how much the iPhone has changed the way we use mobile phones forever – everyone knows that. But more importantly, we’re seeing how camera phones are stepping up to the plate as a genuine point and shoot replacements.

What’s for sure is, you don’t need a big, bulky DSLR to take great shots.

Head on over the jump to see some of the more interesting photos taken using cameras of smartphones.

Motorola Droid gets unofficial Android 2.2 upgrade but lacks WiFi

Posted:  June 6, 2010   By: soyacincau   3 comments

The Motorola Droid or known as Motorola Milestone has an early upgrade to Android 2.2 (Froyo) but in an unofficial way. Some guys at MyDroidWorld had published the downloadable upgrade at their forum. Unfortunately WiFi doesn’t work with this version.

If you’re eager to get Android 2.2 on your Droid/Milestone and don’t mind to live without WiFi for the time being, head to their forum thread and follow the instructions given.

Of course we believe Motorola themselves are working on an official upgrade, the only question is when.

Motorola making money again, thanks to Droid/Milestone

Posted:  May 2, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

Motorola has just released its first quarter numbers for 2010 and announced that it had turned in a profit somewhat due to strong sales from its Droid smartphone (aka. Motorola Milestone here in Malaysia).

Motorola reported a strong 2.3 million units of the Droid sold, exceeding what it had projected. Despite the strong Droid sales Motorola’s other divisions didn’t do so well with it’s Mobile Devices and Home units still making losses. However, its Enterprise Mobility Solutions and Networks businesses supplied enough profit to prop up the company’s earnings.

In the early 2000s Motorola was amongst the leading mobile phone makers in the world with its iconic Razr line of ultra-thin mobile phones. Now the American company is expected to rank in the seventh or eighth position in global mobile phone market share behind Nokia, Samsung and LG.
