Maxis has added 2 more entry level Android devices into its line up with the Motorola Charm and Motorola Flipout. These are relatively new Android devices that offer a more refreshing form factor than the typical candybar or slider design.

The Motorola Charm is a full QWERTY based device that comes with BackTrack touchpad at the back for navigation. It has a 2.8″ touchscreen with supports a low 320×240 resolution. There’s a 3.2MP camera at the back. The Charm is powered with a 600MHz processor, 512MB of ROM, 512MB of RAM and it runs on Android 2.1 Eclair. It retails at RM1399 but on Maxis data contract, it goes for an affordable RM999 for 12 months, RM849 for 18 months and RM799 for 24 months.
The next device is the Motorola Flipout which is quite similar in specs but it has a funky flip out mechanism design that hides the QWERTY keyboard. It also has a 2.8″ 320×240 display and 3.2MP camera at the back. Just like the Charm, it also runs on a 600MHz processor, with Android 2.1. The Flipout retails at RM1299 and with Maxis data contract, it is offered at RM949 for 12 months, RM799 for 18 months and RM649 for 24 months.
We must say that the 2 new motos are quite affordable and this gives the entry level Android devices like HTC Wildfire some heated competition. With Android 2.1 running on these 2 new Motorola devices, we see no reason why anyone would get the Motorola BackFlip which is much more expensive and runs on an older Android 1.5 Cupcake.

Motorola has officially announced the Motorola Charm which is a QWERTY device running on Android 2.1 (Eclaire). The device looks pretty sleek and this will appeal for those who prefer candybar qwerty phones like Blackberry/Nokia E71.
Apart from having a QWERTY keyboard, the Charm features a 2.8″ touchscreen and a touchpad behind the device called the “Backtrack”. For camera, it spots a 3MP camera with “Kodak Perfect Touch Technology” which they claims produces better and brighter pictures. For better enhanced voice call, it even has a 2nd microphone to cancel out background noise.
