List of things that pose same possible carcinogen risk as mobile phones

Posted:  June 2, 2011   By: ccsoya   2 comments

WHO lists mobile phones as “possible carcinogens”. Specifically mobile phones are in the Group 2B category of possible carcinogens and while we won’t even pretend to be an expert in this area, it looks like almost anything can cause cancer.

Although we’ll point out that Group 2B carcinogens are classified as: “The agent (mixture) is possibly carcinogenic to humans. The exposure circumstance entails exposures that are possibly carcinogenic to humans.” as defined by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a body under the WHO.

Taken from Wikipedia:

Group 2B classification is used for agents, mixtures and exposure circumstances for which there is limited evidence of carcinogenicity in humans and less than sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals. It may also be used when there is inadequate evidence of carcinogenicity in humans but there is sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals. In some instances, an agent, mixture or exposure circumstance for which there is inadequate evidence of carcinogenicity in humans but limited evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals together with supporting evidence from other relevant data may be placed in this group.

The IARC has evaluated more than 900 agents since the 1970s and have identified more than 400 agents carcinogenic, probably carcinogenic, or possibly carcinogenic to humans.

We’re not claiming to experts on the subject here and although it appears that the risk posed by mobile phones are low, it is always better to be safe than sorry. So limit exposure to mobile phones as much as you can by wearing a handsfree kit when talking, texting more than calling and reducing mobile phone usage for children.

For the full list of “possibly carcinogen” agents as identified by the IARC, hit up the source link.

Sound of ringtone coming out of croc’s belly after swallowing a mobile phone

Posted:  January 24, 2011   By: ccsoya   No comments

Here’s an unbelievable story…a 14 year-old croc named Gena in the Ukraine swallowed a mobile phone after the mobile phone owner accidentally dropped it into the reptile’s enclosure while trying to snap a picture of the animal with its mouth agape.

Recollecting the incident Rimma Golovko, the owner of the unfortunate phone, said, “this should have been a very dramatic shot, but things didn’t work out”.

Well…obviously.

Employees working at the aquarium where Gena is kept were initially skeptical with the story but later became believers when they heard the sound of the phone ringing inside the crocodile’s stomach.

But things are not looking good for Gena. The gadget savvy croc has turned passive and been refusing food since ingesting the mobile phone. If things don’t improve Gena will be taken for an X-ray within this week. Surgically removing the phone would be a last resort because as the procedure is invasive and dangerous for animal and vet, and take at least three weeks to heal.

If you’re wondering what kind of phone was it, it was a Nokia but no model was mentioned in the report. Well at least now you know that Nokia phones are pretty tough.

Unbelievable story? After all that we’ve seen on the internet, nothing is unbelievable anymore.

OTECH F1: Quad-SIM Mobile Phone

Posted:  October 23, 2010   By: soyacincau   1 comment

Just when you think Dual-SIM phones ain’t enough, OTECH has made a Quad-SIM Mobile Phone called the F1. This allows you to connect up to 4 mobile operators simultaneously as shown with 4 signal bars above. Imagine being able to stay connected on Celcom, DiGi, Maxis and U Mobile all at the same time!

The OTECH F1 comes with a Blackberry like form factor with a similar rip off software inside. As expected on a phone like this, it even comes with TV Tuner, FM Radio and Bluetooth. No mention of the price but it won’t be surprising to see this coming in Malaysia like the rest of those imitation phones from China.
