Remember the Meizu M9? The Android 2.2 smart phone with a Sharp developed ASV display technology to rival the iPhone 4′s Retina Display caused quite a sensation in China with huge masses of people standing in line to purchase the device when it was launched. Now those of you who are interested to get one here can and here’s how.

A Hong Kong online retailer DealExtreme has started offering pre-orders of the Meizu M9 which opens an opportunity for us Malaysians to buy it thru them. There’s no guaranteed availability date and there’s a note mentioning that due to shortages, they can’t guarantee delivery time. DealExtreme normally offers free shipping worldwide for those who wait but at $449 or about RM1377, we suggest you take up a premium shipping for greater peace of mind.

Specwise, it is written as powered by a Samsung Galaxy S’s 1GHz processor with PowerVR SGX540 GPU and it comes with 8GB Storage on board. Official specs are available here.

Just look at that. These people are not coming by the droves for the latest iDevice they are in fact standing in line to get the latest China-made Android device — the Meizu M9. Yeap, we can’t believe it either but it is definitely an awesome sight.

Unlike Apple’s usual limit of two or three purchases per customer at launch of a hot device, Miezu retailers set no such limit. All these people standing in line are allowed to but as many Meizu M9s as they like.

The Meizu M9 runs a skinned Android 2.2 powered by a 1GHz processor. It also features a 3.5-inch 960×640 using Sharp’s ASV display technology which reported offers performance and clarity that rivals the iPhone 4‘s Retina Display which has the same pixel count.

Wonder if CSL will be able to launch something that will garner the same level of fandom here in Malaysia?
