Maxis to bundle Android devices with Value First plan?

Posted:  June 21, 2011   By: soyacincau   1 comment

Word has it that Maxis will offer Android devices at a much lower commitment tomorrow onwards with a minimum of Maxis Value First postpaid plan. Maxis which has Malaysia’s largest offering of Android devices for contract usually bundles their devices with a minimum of Maxis Value Plus 50 with a minimum data bundle of 500MB. This calculates to a minimum commitment of RM108 per month. As a result, this might not be appealing for those who hardly use up RM50 per month on voice calls which goes to waste if not utilised.

This is where DG Smart Plan phone bundling appears to be more attractive as it offers a minimum contract of RM68/month for data while the voice calls are charged as you use on a monthly basis.

With Maxis Value First, your minimum voice commitment is only RM30/month albeit a much higher call rate at 18 sen/min for Maxis to Maxis or 20 sen/minute to call to other networks. While it is obviously more expensive even for today’s prepaid standards, Value First is an entry level voice plan for those that talk less. So overall, with this new revision of Android bundling by Maxis, the minimum commitment would just be RM88. In addition, they would also give a further RM10 rebate each month which makes it just RM78/month.

This however isn’t the first time Maxis is offering Value First for bundling. They had already started offering this for Nokia devices like the Nokia E5, E7 and N8.

So for those budget hunters trying to own the Samsung Galaxy S II with the least commitment, this could be good news. However we advise getting at least 1.5GB data plan as you’ll get 3X the quota of 500MB for just an extra RM20/month.

Maxis offers Nokia E7 from RM1499

Maxis now offers the Nokia E7 on contract after a short round of ROI last week. The Nokia E7 retails at RM1995 and it is offered subsidised when bought on contract with a postpaid plan and add-on data plan of either 500MB, 1.5GB and 3GB.

The Nokia E7 is offered at RM1799 for 12 months, RM1649 for 18 months or as low as RM1499 for 24 months contract. During the duration of contract, Maxis is also giving RM10 extra rebate on your data plan subscription as well.

This time around, unlike its previous bundling like the Nokia N8, you now can bundle any Nokia devices, including the N8 with Maxis Value First postpaid plan with RM30 monthly commitment. So this means, the lowest commitment you can opt for is Maxis Value First (RM30) + 500MB Data Plan (RM58). With the RM10 monthly rebate, that’s a minimum commitment of RM78 which is more affordable than before.

Of course, when it comes to value, we won’t recommend 500MB if you’re a heavy user as it’s costlier per GB. It is more worth it to take up the higher 1.5GB or 3GB plan instead but it also depends on much you use on your phone.
